1. Overview of the Cabin Crew Role


What is a Cabin Crew Member?
Cabin crew members, also known as flight attendants, is responsible for
ensuring passenger safety, comfort, and well-being during flights. They act
as the link between passengers and the airline, providing exceptional
customer service while adhering to strict aviation safety regulations.
Why Are Cabin Crew Important?
 Ensuring passenger safety and responding to emergencies.
 Providing excellent customer service to enhance the airline’s
reputation.
 Representing the airline as the face of the company.
 Managing in-flight services, including food and beverages.
Example: Imagine a passenger suddenly becomes unwell mid-flight. The
cabin crew must stay calm, assess the situation, administer first aid, and
coordinate with the captain for medical assistance if necessary.

Example: A passenger is upset because their vegetarian meal was not
loaded onto the flight. Instead of saying, “Sorry, we don’t have it,” a
trained cabin crew member would offer alternative meal options and
reassure the passenger.

3. Daily Tasks and Responsibilities


A. Pre-Flight Duties:
 Attending a briefing with the flight crew (discussing route, weather,
and passenger needs).
 Ensuring the cabin is clean and stocked with food, drinks, and
blankets.
 Checking emergency equipments.

B. In-Flight Duties:
 Welcoming and assisting passengers with boarding.
 Performing safety demonstrations (seat belts, exits, oxygen masks).

reactions, etc.).
C. Post-Flight Duties:
 Ensuring passengers disembark (Leave the plane) safely.
 Checking the cabin for lost items.
 Filing reports on flight incidents, medical emergencies, or unusual
situations.

Jet lag: Feeling tired after a long flight
❌ Handling difficult or rude passengers.

❌ Need to maintain strict grooming (Personal appearance rules: hair,
uniform, etc.) and fitness standards.
Example: A flight from Dubai to New York can be 14+ hours long. A
cabin crew member must remain energetic, professional, and prepared to
handle any situation throughout the flight.

5. Career Growth and Opportunities:


Cabin Crew Members can progress to higher positions, such as:
➡ Senior Cabin Crew / Purser: Leads the team on board.
➡ Cabin Crew Trainer: Trains new recruits in safety and service.
➡ Ground Staff / Customer Relations: Transitioning to airport-based
roles.
➡ Corporate Flight Attendant: Working for private jets with VIP clients.

To apply for a cabin crew job, you must meet specific airline requirements.
These can vary, but most airlines look for the following:
1. Age & Education
 Minimum Age: 18–21 years (varies by airline).
 Education: High school diploma or equivalent (some airlines prefer
higher education).
2. Language Skills
 Fluent in English (spoken and written).
 Knowing other languages (French, Arabic, German, etc.) is a big
advantage.
📌 Example: Emirates Airlines requires English fluency, while Qatar
Airways prefers candidates who speak additional languages like Arabic or
Mandarin.
3. Height & Reach Requirement
 Height: Minimum 157 cm – 165 cm (depends on the airline).
 Reach test: You must reach 212 cm while standing on tiptoes.
📌 Why is height important?
Cabin crew need to reach overhead compartments and safety equipment.

4. Appearance & Grooming:


 Well-groomed, professional look (neat hair, clean nails, light makeup
for women).
 No visible tattoos or piercings while wearing the uniform.
📌 Example: Qatar Airways does not allow any visible tattoos, even if they
can be covered with makeup.

5. Physical Fitness:
 Good health & fitness (able to carry luggage, stand for long hours).
 Ability to swim at least 25 meters (some airlines require a swimming
test).
📌 Example: British Airways requires all cabin crew to swim without a life
jacket.
6. Personality & Skills:
 Friendly and positive attitude.
 Strong communication and teamwork skills.
 Ability to stay calm in emergencies.
📌 Example: A cabin crew member must handle angry passengers calmly
instead of arguing.
Additional Requirements:
 Valid passport (must allow travel worldwide).
 No criminal record.
 Good eyesight (glasses/contact lenses allowed, but no extreme vision
issues).
