SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
Provided with the necessary materials at least 85% of the students
should be able to:

A.Identify appropriate program/application standard operating procedures

(SOPs).
B. Perform all data input and management tasks while adhering to
established ergonomic guidelines to maintain health and well-being.
C. Appreciate the importance of accurate data entry, proper storage, and
ergonomic practices in professional settings
COMPUTER APPLICATION
SOFTWARE
• Application software is software that
allows the user to accomplish some goal
or purpose. It is a program or group of
programs designed for end-users.
COMPUTER APPLICATION
SOFTWARE
EXAMPLES:
WORD
PROCESSOR
• a software program capable
of creating, storing, and
printing documents.
COMPUTER APPLICATION
SOFTWARE
EXAMPLES:
SPREADSHEET
• a data file made up of rows and columns
that are used to sort data and allow a
user to manipulate and arrange data
easily, commonly numerical data.
COMPUTER APPLICATION
SOFTWARE
EXAMPLES:
PRESENTATION
SOFTWARE
• a software program that
helps create a slideshow
that addresses a topic.
COMPUTER APPLICATION
SOFTWARE
EXAMPLES: DATABASE MANAGEMENT
SYSTEM
• a program that controls the
organization, storage,
management, and retrieval of
data in a database.
COMPUTER APPLICATION
SOFTWARE
EXAMPLES:
DESKTOP PUBLISHER

• used to produce high-quality

printed documents such as
magazines, greeting cards, posters,
etc.
COMPUTER APPLICATION
SOFTWARE
EXAMPLES:

WEB BROWSER
• a software application used to locate and display
Web pages (e.g. Opera, Mozilla, chrome, etc.)
How do you use
application software in
your daily activities?
Why is a database
management system
important?
APPLICATION SOFTWARE
• The software can be classified into two: System Software and
Application Software.

1.System Software refers to software that is used to run a

computer.
2.Application software refers to a program that is used to
perform a specific task.
DATA PROCESSING
• It is defined as transforming raw data into
information. Data refers to raw facts.
• Examples of data are numbers, letters, and
pictures. These may have little to no meaning to
the user unless it is processed into information.
CHECKING AND SAVING
INFORMATION
• Accuracy is crucial in data processing. Input data is used to solve problems. This
may involve calculations and decision-making. Having errors in the data may result
in wrong calculations and bad decision-making.
• Data Integrity means error-free and complete input data. To preserve data
integrity, error-checking and validation methods may be applied. After data has
been processed and validated, it may be saved through a file. A file is defined as a
collection of records that are related.
MASTER FILE
• contains all the related information regarding
a particular item. For example, a student file
contains all the information regarding a
specific student. This may include name,
address, contact number, and grades.
REFERENCE FILE

• this is a file that is used for lookup or

reference. For example, a Quick
Response (QR) Code attendance
system.
BACK-UP FILE
• this is a copy of the original file. A
backup must always be available in
case the original file has been lost,
damaged, or changed accidentally.
Why is it important to
store backup files in a
secure location?
STORAGE DEVICES
• A storage device is computer
hardware that is used to store
data. These can store information
permanently or temporarily.
Storage devices are classified into
two: Primary and Secondary.
PRIMARY STORAGE
These storage devices are used to store data temporarily.
These hold data, programs, and instructions that are
currently being used by the computer. These can be found
inside the computer system. These devices have the fastest
data access. The following are primary storage devices:
READ-ONLY MEMORY
(ROM)
This is a chip that contains
instructions to enable the
computer to start.
RANDOM ACCESS
MEMORY (RAM)
This is a storage device that stores
data, and programs that the computer
needs while it is running. It can store
data only when the computer is
working, when the computer is turned
off, all the data will also be erased.
SECONDARY STORAGE
This refers to an internal or external storage device
of the computer. This can store data permanently.
Files such as photos, documents, and videos, are
stored here. There are various types of secondary
storage devices. The following are examples of this:
HARD DISK DRIVES (HDD)
These are the main hardware storage
device of a computer. This contains the
operating system, application software
files, user files, and many other files of
the computer.
SOLID-STATE DRIVES (SSD)
have the same functions as HDD but
these are faster and more expensive
the HDDs. SSDs are also smaller which
allows manufacturers to have more
versatile designs in computers.
FLASH DRIVES
These are small storage devices that
are the size of a thumb. These are
plug-and-play devices which means
these can be used on any computer
without installing any software.
Describe the difference
between primary and
secondary storage.
WORK ERGONOMICS
The term ergonomics is defined as a study of the design and
arrangement of items people use and interact with most efficiently
and safely. It is also known as human engineering.

Computer ergonomics simply refers to the study of how we interact

with computers. Staying in front of a computer for hours can cause
strain, fatigue, and injuries.
To avoid problems with long-term computer
use, the following must be observed:

• Allow your arms to rest at a 90° angle to

the keyboard.
• Use a chair that supports your back in
an upright position.
• Place the monitor in front of you with a
minimum distance of 18 inches at eye
level and keep your feet flat on the
floor.
How does practicing good
computer ergonomics improve
productivity and health?
Scenario:
ACTIVITY
A small business is experiencing difficulties with its data processing system. The
business uses multiple types of application software, including a word processor for
report writing, a spreadsheet for inventory management, and a web browser for
accessing online databases. However, due to errors in data input and a lack of regular
backups, some critical data has been lost or corrupted.

Guide Questions:
1. Which application software is best suited for managing and recovering the lost
data?
2. How can you validate the accuracy of the newly entered data?
3. What backup solution can be implemented to prevent future data loss?
4. What ergonomic practices should be followed during the data entry process?
RUBRICS
“Data is a precious thing and will last
longer than the systems themselves."
