TL25 L1e + TL2500 Component Testing
TL25 L1e + TL2500 Component Testing
Battery Testing
The Talaria TL25 L1e and TL2500 are equipped with a high voltage lithium based battery which
must not be disassembled, altered or used in any way other than described in the user manual. It
is possible to test the battery voltage if required but caution should be used when handling high
voltage equipment.
Ignition Switch
The vehicles are fitted with a push button ignition switch
coupled with an NFC keyfob. To test the push button,
first remove the 3 bolts (M5 x 10mm) securing the
switch and surround to the chassis.
When refitting, tighten between 4-6Nm
Green to Red/Black ≈ +60v when ignition button is depressed and NFC has been activated by the Keyfob
If faulty, check continuity to the Keyfob receiver located
next to the ignition button using a suitable continuity
tester and check;
NFC Brown continuity to Receiver Black.
Note; The keyfob will not activate the NFC module while
wiring continuity is being tested.
DC-DC Converter
The vehicle power supply uses a DC-DC module to
provide a 12v power supply to the ancillary components.
This is accessed by removing the nearside centre
cowling.
Side-Stand Switch
The vehicle uses a Hall effect sensor to monitor the
position of the Side-stand. For testing it is necessary to
remove the offside centre cowling. Remove the 5 bolts
(M5 x 10mm) securing the cowling to the chassis and
remove.
When refitting, tighten between 4-6Nm
With the ignition set to the “On” position and the NFC
Keyfob activated, test the wiring connector using a
suitable voltmeter set to he 20v DC range and test the
following wire pairs;
The TL25 L1e and TL2500 have 2 variations of motor controller. This affects the wiring terminals
only and the remaining components are unaltered.
Motor Control Unit - Type 1 connector
The type 1 connector Socket A from the wiring loom plugs directly into the main Motor Control Unit. This
connector and corresponding wire colours are as follows;
Pin 1 - Black/White Pin 9 - Red/White
Pin 2 - Red Pin 10 - Green/White 2
Pin 3 - Yellow Pin 11 - Green/Yellow
Pin 4 - Black Pin 12 - Brown
Pin 5 - Green Pin 13 - Purple
Pin 6 - Blue/White Pin 14 - Yellow/Blue
Pin 7 - Green/White 1 Pin 15 - not used
Pin 8 - Red/Black Pin 16 - Pink
The type 1 connector Socket B from the wiring loom plugs directly into the main Motor Control Unit. This
connector and corresponding wire colours are as follows;
Pin 1 - White Pin 5 - Red
Pin 2 - Purple Pin 6 - Blue
Pin 3 - Not Used Pin 7 - Green
Pin 4 - Black Pin 8 - Yellow
The type 2 connector Socket E is connected to the wiring loom around 6 inches from the Motor Control
unit. These connectors and corresponding wire colours are as follows;
On the WIRING LOOM side of the connector
Pin 1 - White Pin 5 - Red
Pin 2 - Purple Pin 6 - Blue
Pin 3 - Not Used Pin 7 - Green
Pin 4 - Black Pin 8 - Yellow

Motor Control Unit - Type 1 and Type 2 - Low Voltage Testing
CAUTION! Testing the wiring connectors on either
version machine requires the use of suitable NEEDLE
probes to avoid wire damage. Standard probes will not
contact the connector pins and must not be used as
they may cause a short circuit due to their probe size.
For the throttle position testing, the machine must be powered “On” and the NFC keyfob activated.
CAUTION; This test involves turning the throttle with the ignition set to “On”. If the machine is in “Ready”
mode, the motor will drive the machine. It is recommended to leave the side-stand in the “Down” position
or with a brake activated to prevent the motor from driving.
For Type 1 machines, test the 16 pin Black/White to Green/White ≈ 1.0v - Closed Throttle
connector Socket A 4.3v - Wide Open Throttle
For Type 2 machines, test the 4 pin Black.White to Red/White ≈ 5.0v
connector Socket C
For the remaining voltage testing, it is necessary to connect the
Negative probe from the voltmeter to the B- terminal on the rear of
the Motor Control Unit.
For Type 1 machines, test the 16 pin connector Socket A
For Type 2 machines, test the 4 pin connector Socket C for the
Green/Yellow and Socket D for all other colours.
Positive Probe;
Red/Black ≈ +60v (depending on battery charge) If faulty, check/replace the NFC Controller
Green/Yellow ≈ 10v - 12v when either brake If faulty check/replace the brake light switches
lever is depressed
Purple ≈ 12v when side-stand is “Up” If faulty, check/replace the side-stand switch
≈ 0v when side-stand is “Down”
Yellow/Blue ≈ 12v from the Tilt Sensor If faulty, check/replace the Tilt Sensor
≈ 0v when tilt sensor is “Activated”
For Type 1 machines, Test the following pin pairs using a suitable voltmeter set to the 20vDC range;
test the 8 pin connector
Socket B Black to Red ≈ 4.7v
Black to White ≈ 0.1v to 4.65v depending on wheel rotation, voltage
For Type 2 machines, difference shown with 45° rotation of the rear wheel
test the 8 pin connector Black to Purple ≈ 0.1v to 4.65v depending on wheel rotation, voltage
Socket E difference shown with 45° rotation of the rear wheel
Black to Blue ≈ 0.5v to 4.65v depending on wheel rotation, voltage
difference shown with approx. 0.2° rotation of the rear
wheel
Black to Green ≈ 0.5v to 4.65v depending on wheel rotation, voltage
difference shown with approx. 0.2° rotation of the rear
wheel
Black to Yellow ≈ 0.5v to 4.65v depending on wheel rotation, voltage
difference shown with approx. 0.2° rotation of the rear
wheel

Motor Control Unit - Type 1 and Type 2 - High Voltage Testing
To test the MCU Motor outputs, first check the HV power supply to the +B and -B terminals (see
Battery Voltage section).
CAUTION! Testing the MCU outputs includes high voltage power testing and care should be
taken to avoid personal injury or electrical short circuits.
For Motor Controller Output testing it will be necessary to “drive” the rear wheel. Ensure the machine is
correctly supported and secured on a suitable work ramp with the rear wheel free to rotate.
With the ignition set to “On” including activation of the Voltmeter set to the 200v AC range
NFC Keyfob, set the voltmeter to the appropriate range. -B to U - 0.0v to ≈ 38v AC at full throttle
-B to V - 0.0v to ≈ 38v AC at full throttle
-B to W - 0.0v to ≈ 38v AC at full throttle
Open the throttle to the fully open position and monitor
the voltage of the phase output from the MCU. Repeat Voltmeter set to the 200v DC range
for each motor phase output. (U V & W) -B to U - 0.0v to ≈ 32v DC at full throttle
-B to V - 0.0v to ≈ 32v DC at full throttle
-B to W - 0.0v to ≈ 32v DC at full throttle
