Component Testing

This leaflet is applicable to the TL25 L1e and TL2500 models.

This guide is not designed to be a complete diagnostic manual and is
produced only to aid in the diagnostic process for this model. It is
assumed that the technician performing diagnostic routines is suitably
trained and capable for these tasks.

Battery Testing
The Talaria TL25 L1e and TL2500 are equipped with a high voltage lithium based battery which
must not be disassembled, altered or used in any way other than described in the user manual. It
is possible to test the battery voltage if required but caution should be used when handling high
voltage equipment.

The battery includes a Battery Management Unit which

will monitor the battery voltage. To check the charge
state, lift the battery cover and depress the activation
button and the unit will display current charge.

This can be done with the battery in situ if the battery

cover is lifted.

If issue is suspected the Low Amperage battery voltage

can be checked manually. This is best performed using
the battery wiring connection to the main wire harness.

Remove the 5 bolts (M5 x 10mm) securing the nearside

centre cowling and remove the cowling.
When refitting, tighten between 4 - 6 Nm

With the panel removed, locate the Battery connector to

the main wiring harness.

CAUTION! - When testing any high voltage equipment

take care to avoid accidental short circuit to avoid
personal injury.

With the cable disconnected, on the battery side of the

socket, the battery overall voltage can be tested. Using
a suitable voltmeter set to the 200v DC range, test
between;
Black to Red ≈ 60v depending on battery charge level

With the battery harness connector plugged into the main

harness, use suitable probes to backprobe the wiring on
the battery side of the terminal to test;

Black to Orange ≈ +60v (Ignition on + keyfob activated)

If faulty, test the ignition button

Black to Yellow ≈ +60v (Ignition on + keyfob activated)

If faulty, test the Keyfob NFC
Controller

Motor Control Unit - Type 1 and Type 2 - High Voltage Testing

To test the MCU Motor outputs, first check the HV power supply to the +B and -B terminals (see
Battery Voltage section).
CAUTION! Testing the MCU outputs includes high voltage power testing and care should be
taken to avoid personal injury or electrical short circuits.

Using a suitable voltmeter capable of reading both AC

and DC current, connect suitable connectors to the -B
terminal of the MCU and the first Phase Output terminal
(Terminal U shown)

For Motor Controller Output testing it will be necessary to “drive” the rear wheel. Ensure the machine is
correctly supported and secured on a suitable work ramp with the rear wheel free to rotate.

With the ignition set to “On” including activation of the Voltmeter set to the 200v AC range
NFC Keyfob, set the voltmeter to the appropriate range. -B to U - 0.0v to ≈ 38v AC at full throttle
-B to V - 0.0v to ≈ 38v AC at full throttle
-B to W - 0.0v to ≈ 38v AC at full throttle
Open the throttle to the fully open position and monitor
the voltage of the phase output from the MCU. Repeat Voltmeter set to the 200v DC range
for each motor phase output. (U V & W) -B to U - 0.0v to ≈ 32v DC at full throttle
-B to V - 0.0v to ≈ 32v DC at full throttle
-B to W - 0.0v to ≈ 32v DC at full throttle

The Talaria TL25 L1e and TL2500 use as DC Brushless

motor to create drive from the MCU control.
It is recommended to first test the systems as listed
above in this component testing leaflet.

Phase testing; To test the motor phase coil resistance,

DISCONNECT the battery before completely removing
the MCU and disconnecting the HV cables.

Using a suitable Ohmmeter set to the 200Ω range or

lower, test the resistance across each phase coil;
U to V
U to W A reading around 0.5Ω can be
V to W expected across each phase coil.

For any issues not covered or not resolved using this information, please ensure you write down your
results to the above testing and forward them to us along with your technical support request.

Support requests where this testing has not been completed or has not been submitted will be asked to
perform these tests in the first instance.
