PROJECT
UNIT CODE :DPAD 0108
YEAR : Y2S1
Community-based means a facility, program or service, or open group home or other suitable
place located near the home or family of the juvenile, and programs of community supervision
and service which maintain community participation in their planning, operation, and evaluation.
Examples;
These include good schools and educational offerings; convenient access to goods and services;
easily available public transportation; streets that are both walkable and bikeable; availability of
jobs; a mix of housing; health and wellness centers; parks; gardens and activities that improve
quality of life
Giving back and assisting others is the basis of community service or volunteering. Thus, it
teaches us how significant it is to help the ones in need, the ones who are less fortunate than us.
The importance of community service lies in the fact that it connects us to the community by
improving it, and making it a better place for all of us to live in.
When you are thinking of changing or advancing your career, community service helps you gain
experience and skills required for the professional turn you are considering taking. One of the
community service benefits is that it provides you with the chance to improve skills important
for a workplace, such as communication and organizational skills, teamwork, planning, problem-
solving and task management. Furthermore, people could first merely try out an attractive career
through volunteering before leaping to a long-term commitment.
In order to secure funding for your organization, you must submit a grant proposal or a
community-based project proposal that will effectively demonstrate the value of your project. A
professional and formal approach is essential when seeking a grant, as it increases the likelihood
of your community project being funded.
A proposal is similar to an advertisement that has the potential to capture the attention of its
readers. It is an effective marketing tactic that can assist in obtaining what is desired or required.
Without a proposal, one would have to tirelessly search for a funder for their project. However,
with a proposal, one is able to gain clear direction for their project.
b)Character and Appearance; While some may think that focusing on the physical appearance
of something can be rather shallow, principles of character and appearance are actually important
components of community development. Many communities and neighborhoods have a distinct
appearance and sensory association that are clear identifiers for them. These features set the tone
within the community and are a strong influence for the community's public reputation.
c)Inclusion And Diversity;Diversity typically refers to the traits present in a group-gender, race,
socioeconomic status, religion, political views, etc-and it's a term that almost everyone is familiar
with in some way. The world is a very diverse place, so it's not uncommon for a single
community to have a fairly healthy level of diversity even when the group at large is built upon a
specific focus or interest. Everything in a community needs to be addressed during the
community development process, so it's important to pay attention to even the smallest degree of
diversity in a community.
d)Planning and preparations; As one of the key principles, planning and preparation can be
greatly beneficial to the community as it goes through the process of community development.
The changes made are going to be significant, and there's a good chance that there may be some
difficulty adjusting to them within the community. Planning things out gives those within the
community a chance to acclimate to the new situation and offers opportunities for feedback to be
given to those leading the changes before moving on to the next step.
Before planning any initiative, it is equally important to understand the characteristics of the
community members and find out where their interests intersect
The next step is to identify the stakeholders and understand who your real stakeholders are.
Identify the citizens who are experiencing the issue and identify the community members who
are willing to take the lead. You will find a mix of people within the community. Some may be
willing to take action, while others may be hesitant because of other concerns.
Mission and vision statements play a significant role and help define the purpose of the action
item. This may further help in developing measurable goals for the community development
programme. The mission statement should outline the steps to reach the goal. In contrast, the
vision statement should describe the initiatives that will be taken in the future for the
development of the community.
Step 5: Define Your Community Consultation Plan
The next step that you should take is to articulate or create a layout of the plan for the
community development programme. Before you start building a layout for the project, you
should understand the issues that need to be addressed and the cultural influences that may
impact the community members. You must keep some aspects in mind while creating your
community consultation plan.
Make sure you list the strategies you would want to implement to bring the changes and uplift
the community members in the society. Once you are done strategizing, execute the process and
take steps to implement the action plan. At the implementation stage, you should keep evaluating
the strategies that may be applicable, and that may not be ideal for the community development
project.
The last step is to organize and evaluate the steps’ impact. Use different evaluation methods to
understand the impact of the project. Check if the goals and objectives have been met and what
other issues need to be addressed.
