Layers are the AutoCAD equivalent of overlay sheets in paper based drawing offices layers can be
hidden displayed or printed layers can be assigned color line type and line weight to layers which helps to
identify sets of features. Layers can be created at stage layer before drawing or after wards, layers has
the default settings for color white or black if the background is white , they are created in the layers
properties dialogue box

When you start new drawing, it has only one-layer layer 0,new It makes the layer invisible, thaw the
layers to bring it back into active use
On /off it simply toggles the visibility of layer when turned off a layer is not displayed or plotted
Lock
Prevents object on layer from being edited or deleted
Colour
Shows the default colour for lines hatches on the layer
To create layers
Open the format menu and select layer or click the layer properties manager tool on the layers toolbar
Click new
Anew layer will be listed replace the default name layer 1 with more meaningful name set the layers
properties
To set the the colour, line type or line weight click on the icon to open the related item.
