Assignment 3

The document outlines a series of physics problems involving forces, tension, and reactions in static systems. It includes calculations for a trolley's resultant force, cable tension components, and reactions at supports. Additionally, it addresses the support reaction for a telephone pole under tension from two wires.

Assignment

1. A trolley that moves along a horizontal beam is acted upon by two forces as shown.
a) Knowing that α = 25°, determine by trigonometry the magnitude of the force P
so that the resultant force exerted on the trolley is vertical.
b) What is the corresponding magnitude of the resultant?

2. A frame ABC is supported in part by cable DBE that passes through a frictionless ring
at B. Knowing that the tension in the cable is 385 N, determine the components of the
force exerted by the cable on the support at D.
3. Neglecting friction, determine the tension in cable ABD and the reaction at support C.

4. A 6-m telephone pole weighing 1600 N is used to support the ends of two wires. The
wires form the angles shown with the horizontal axis and the tensions in the wires are,
respectively, T1 = 600 N and T2 = 375 N. Determine the reaction at the fixed end A.
