1. Introduction
This chapter provides an introduction to the S-Series Chassis switches and their equipment used
in the Foxboro Evo Control Network.

NOTE
For details about the concepts, architecture and cabling for the Foxboro Evo Con-
trol Network, refer to The Foxboro Evo Control Network Architecture Guide
(B0700AZ).

S-Series Chassis Switches

The following S-Series Chassis switches have been tested and qualified by Foxboro for use with
the control network and other Foxboro Evo™ Process Automation System products:
♦ SSA Chassis managed switch (P0973KK/LN) provides fifty-two SFP uplink ports.
♦ S4 Chassis managed switch (P0973KD) provides up to one hundred ninety two SFP
uplink ports.
These switches are optimal for use in the star and inverted tree topologies for small to large-sized
networks, as discussed in the introduction of The Foxboro Evo Control Network Architecture Guide
(B0700AZ).

NOTE
S-Series switches, as indicated, must use Revision 3.5.1 or later versions of the
Switch Configurator Application Software, discussed in Switch Configurator Applica-
tion Software Guide for the Foxboro Evo Control Network (B0700CA).

SSA Chassis Managed Switch (P0973KK/LN)

Figure 1-1. SSA Chassis Managed Switch (P0973KK)

1
B0700CE – Rev D 1. Introduction

Figure 1-2. SSA Chassis Managed Switch (P0973LN)

The SSA Chassis managed switch (P0973KK/LN) provides fifty-two SFP 1000Base-X 1Gb
uplink ports.
The switches allow high-performance, full-featured Ethernet switching in small to medium-sized
network applications, as well as high-performance direct end-station connectivity.
Distributed switching architecture with redundant processors and integral load-sharing redundant
power supplies make the SSA Chassis managed switch extremely reliable.
The chassis utilizes add-on power supplies (ordered separately) that requires one separately fused,
15-amp power circuit within 182 cm (6 ft) of the power supply. For redundancy, a second supply
slot is available.

NOTE
Two separate branch circuits are required for the redundant power supply. Requires
two 15 A AC outlets independently fused within 182 cm (6 ft) of power supply,
each outlet uses a separate 15 A power circuit per power supply.

The features of the SSA Chassis managed switch (P0973KK/LN) are:

♦ 48-port 1000Base-X 1Gb SFP uplink ports
♦ 4-port 10G SFP uplink ports configurable as 1G uplink ports
♦ Rapid Spanning Tree (RSTP), IEEE 802.1w compatible
♦ Monitoring and configuration tasks via local port, or SNMP-based management
application
♦ Distributed switching architecture for maximum uptime
♦ Redundant power supply for increased power security.

NOTE
The DFE-Gold and DFE-Platinum series blades are neither interchangeable nor
compatible with the S-Series chassis switch.

For more information on uplink modules, refer to Figure A-1 in Appendix A “Ethernet Switch
Interconnection Diagrams” and the documentation supplied with the switch.

Visual Indicators
Indicators on the front of the chassis indicate: power failure and fan failure. Indicators for each
port and uplink indicate: port enabled and link activity, data collisions and diagnostic failure.

(P0973KE or P0973LJ)

Figure 1-5. S4 Chassis Managed Switch (P0973KD)

The S4 Chassis managed switch (P0973KD) (Figure 1-5) consists of three usable slots within a
4-slot chassis with four empty power supply locations and a front mounted fan assembly. The
3-slots can be populated with Ethernet blades/modules, depending on the needs of the user.
Slot 2 in the switch (see Figure 1-5) must be populated with an S4 S-Series Network I/O Fabric
module (P0973KG, P0973KG Rev. B, or P0973LP) for switch operations. The I/O Fabric mod-
ule is the master blade for the switch, controlling the other slot locations. To achieve proper
failover in the event of an I/O Fabric module failure, Slot 3 cannot be populated.
The P0973KD switch provides up to one hundred ninety two SFP uplink ports depending on the
number of blades and modules installed.
The switch allows high-performance, full-featured Ethernet switching in medium to large-sized
network applications. Direct end-station connectivity is possible when using the P0973JE 100Mb
GBIC.
The chassis utilizes a 1200/1600 or 930/1600 watt power supplies (ordered separately) that
requires one separately fused, 20-amp power circuit (for P0973KE) or a 15-amp power circuit (for
P0973LJ) within 182 cm (6 ft) of the power supply. For redundancy, four supply slots are avail-
able.
For a list of the switch modules supported by the S4 Chassis managed switch, refer to Table 1-2,
“S4 Chassis Managed Switch Modules/Uplink Modules,” on page 9.

5
B0700CE – Rev D 1. Introduction

NOTE
A redundantly powered S4 Chassis managed switch requires two 20-amp branch
circuits.

The features of the S4 Chassis managed switch (P0973KD) are:

♦ Up to 192 1Gb SFP uplink ports depending on the choice of modules
♦ Selectable switch modules/uplink modules and interfaces (see Table 1-2, “S4 Chassis
Managed Switch Modules/Uplink Modules,” on page 9)
♦ Rapid Spanning Tree (RSTP), IEEE 802.1w compatible
♦ Monitoring and configuration tasks via local port, or SNMP-based management
application.
♦ Distributed switching architecture for maximum uptime
♦ An optional, pluggable, redundant power supply for increased power security.
Distributed switching architecture with redundant processors and power supplies and hot-swap-
pable components make the S4 Chassis managed switch extremely reliable —with no single point
of failure.

Visual Indicators
Indicators on the front of the power supply indicate: AC and DC power status (good or failed).
Indicators on the blades indicate testing and bootup. Indicators for each port and uplink indicate:
port enabled and link activity, data collisions and diagnostic failure. For a full description of these
LEDs, refer to “Overview of S-Series” on page 11.

Auto-Ranging Power Supplies

The S4 Chassis managed switch's have two option for its power supplies:
♦ P0973KE - a 20 Amp input source power supply
♦ P0973LJ - a 15 Amp input source power supply.
Both automatically adjust to the input voltage ranges of 100 to 125 V AC, or 200 or 250 V AC,
with a frequency range of 50 to 60 Hz.

1. Introduction B0700CE – Rev D

Figure 1-6. S-Series S4 Chassis Managed Switch Power Supply

Power Supply Replacement

To reduce network downtime, redundant power supplies (P0973KE and P0973LJ) are hot swap-
pable and one can be replaced online after it has been powered down. This allows you to remove
one power supply without powering down the chassis and interrupting network traffic.

Chassis Cooling System

The S4 Chassis managed switch features a removable fan tray (P0973KT), which is accessible
from the front of the chassis. The fan tray is hot swappable, which allows you to replace it without
powering down the chassis.

! CAUTION
The fan assembly is hot-swappable. However, do not run the chassis for any
extended periods of time without an operating fan assembly, as the chassis will
quickly overheat and cause damage.

S-Series Environmental Guidelines

You must comply with the environmental installation and operation guidelines described in this
document, which references limits on operating temperature and humidity.

18
2. Site Planning B0700CE – Rev D

! CAUTION
Failure to operate the equipment within these prescribed ranges can result in
reduced performance and damaged equipment. Failure to comply with these limits
and guidelines may void the product warranty, and it may also exclude the equip-
ment from support entitlements of any applicable maintenance contract
agreements.

The following information describes these limits and recommendations in further detail.

Temperature and Humidity Guidelines

Operating Temperatures
All equipment must operate within the prescribed temperature and humidity ranges specified in
this documentation. Operation of the equipment outside these limits may result in damaged
equipment and/or reduced performance and reliability. This may require reliable, monitored, and
24x7 operation of climate control systems (heating and air conditioning).

Inlet Air Temperature Measurement

Operating temperature maximums and minimums are limits on the ambient air temperature
entering the switching equipment. This area is located within 1 inch of the main equipment inlet.
This is not necessarily the same as the air temperature throughout the room.

Cooling Air
Careful consideration is needed when mounting this equipment. Proper inlet and exit spaces must
be allowed to get fresh, cool air into the equipment and to allow hot exhaust air to exit away from
the equipment. Blocked venting can result in an overheating condition that can damage the
equipment. Pay close attention to cable ingress and egress routing to verify that cabling is not
blocking venting.

Power Conditioning
The Foxboro Evo Control Network switches are rated to be used within internationally accepted
AC input parameters. It is important that these parameters are monitored and verified to operate
as expected for the ratings that apply to the installed equipment. Surges and excessive noise out-
side of these prescribed ranges in the power circuits feeding this equipment may cause permanent
damage to the installed equipment and must be monitored and prevented.

Airflow Concerns for Closed Racks

When placing the Foxboro Evo Control Network switches into enclosed racks, rack exhaust fans
must be considered if the rack does not contain adequate inlet and exit venting. These fans may
be needed to help exhaust hot air from the rack. They must be sized properly to exhaust the col-
lective volumetric flow from all equipment within the rack.
Figure 2-8 illustrates the ideal configuration for a fully vented, closed rack. All panels are vented,
and side-to-side cooled sub-systems are flowing in the same direction. Cool air ingress through
the bottom of the rack must be carefully allowed to enhance overall system airflow and prevent

19
B0700CE – Rev D 2. Site Planning

stagnant air recirculation. This may need to be confirmed through thermal testing at the installa-
tion site.

Figure 2-8. Closed Rack Ideal Configuration

Airflow Concerns for Open Racks

Equipment with different air flow cooling patterns, such as Front to Back, Back to Front, Left to
Right, or Right to Left, can present special concerns. Recirculation of heated air through equip-
ment is unwanted because it increases the inlet temperature that causes the equipment compo-
nents to operate at elevated temperatures. Likewise, you must plan so that equipment in
neighboring racks prevents hot air exhaust from one rack being pulled into the inlet of an adjacent
rack.
Figure 2-9 illustrates the ideal configuration for an open rack. All sub-systems flow in the same
direction, as shown by the white arrows.

Figure 2-9. Open Rack Ideal Configuration

Figure 2-10 shows a non-ideal configuration for an open rack, where subsystems with mixed flow
directions (white arrows) are combined in one rack. Circular red arrows show potential for hot air
recirculation.

Figure 2-10. Non-ideal Open Rack Configuration

Non-ideal flows should be avoided or mitigated and confirmed through thermal testing.
Figure 2-11 shows a non-ideal open rack configuration containing sub-systems with mixed flow
directions (white arrows). This configuration shows mitigation of potential hot air recirculation
by leaving a gap in the rack population.

Figure 2-12 shows another mitigation strategy for open racks containing sub-systems with mixed
flow direction. Mitigate potential hot air recirculation by separating unlike systems with products
that have front-to-back airflow patterns.

Dust Mitigation and Prevention

Dust accumulation on inlet and exit venting is not uncommon after prolonged use. Over time,
dust accumulation can create vent blockages, thereby decreasing airflow and increasing compo-
nent temperatures, resulting in reduced reliability. In dustier environments, this accumulation can
be much quicker. We strongly recommend that you perform routine maintenance to check for
clean inlet and exit vents on this equipment. Recommended maintenance should start with
monthly inspections and be adjusted based on dust accumulation levels.
Dust removal from the equipment is a required part of maintenance. When removing dust:
♦ Use proper ESD precautions.
♦ Use a vacuum that is properly grounded through a cord having an equipment-ground-
ing conductor and grounding plug.
♦ Carefully vacuum the dust particles from the inlet and exit venting of the equipment
to allow for proper air flow and ventilation.
♦ Please contact Foxboro Technical Support [CJT to link] for additional information
about external filter options.

Airborne Chemicals and Prevention

Various airborne chemicals and contaminants can cause corrosion and thus decrease the service
life of most vendors' equipment. To reduce the risk of such corrosion, locate the equipment only
in areas that are rated as a G1 environment.

3. Installation
This chapter describes the steps necessary to install the S-Series Chassis switches as part of the
Foxboro Evo Control Network.
Installation of the Ethernet switches in the control network consists of locating the individual
components and then making connections between them using fiber optic or copper cable.

S-Series Chassis Switch Installations

The following sections provide instructions for installing the S-Series Chassis switches and
descriptions of the features and capabilities of the switches that are offered by Schneider Electric
for use in the Foxboro Evo Control Network. Use this information to aid in the selection of
equipment to implement the network design plan.
Install the SSA Chassis managed switch (P0973KK/LN) and the S4 Chassis managed switch
(P0973KD) into the K50 Server enclosure as discussed in K50 Server Enclosure (PSS 31H-2KOV)
and Enclosures and Mounting Structures Site Planning and Installation User’s Guide (B0700AS).

Ethernet Switch Installation (P0973KK/LN)

The S-Series Chassis switches are designed to be placed on a flat, level surface. Alternatively, the
switches may be mounted in a rack using the supplied mounting brackets. Make sure that the
environment in which the switch is located meets the switch’s environmental operating specifica-
tions, especially heat and humidity. Refer to the documentation included with the switch for
detailed installation instructions and operating specifications.

SSA Chassis Switch (P0973KK/LN)

The SSA switch is a chassis-based Ethernet switch (refer to “SSA Chassis Managed Switch
(P0973KK/LN)” on page 1). The switch consists of a tabletop or rack-mountable chassis contain-
ing a field swappable, load-sharing, redundant power supply with cooling fans.

Site Installation Guidelines for SSA Chassis Switch (P0973KK/LN)

The following guidelines must be observed when a site is selected for the SSA Chassis managed
switch.

NOTE
If the guidelines are not followed, unsatisfactory network performance may result.

♦ To ensure proper ventilation and prevent overheating, leave a minimum clearance

space of 5.1 cm (2.0 in) of clearance on either side and in the front and rear of the
unit.
♦ To install the SSA Chassis managed switch as a freestanding unit on a shelf, the shelf
must be able to adequately support the static weight of the unit.

25
B0700CE – Rev D 3. Installation

♦ The power supplies for the SSA Chassis managed switch require two three-pronged
power receptacles capable of delivering the current and voltage specified below. AC
outlets on independently fused circuits are required for each power supply, and must
be located less than 2 m (6 ft) from the site. The power cord used and type of outlet is
dependent on the country. In the United States, two power cords with NEMA 5-15P
plugs are provided with each power supply.
♦ Ambient temperature at the installation site must be maintained between 5° and 40°C
(41° to 104°F). Temperature changes must be maintained within 10°C (18°F) per
hour.
♦ The SSA Chassis managed switch may be mounted in a 19” rack, such in the K50
Server enclosure.
♦ If the SSA P0973KK is installed in an enclosure other than the K50 or G50 Server
enclosure, be aware that the air flow for the S-Series switches is left to right, which is
different from other Foxboro Evo Control Network switches. This may impact the air
circulation in the enclosure.

NOTE
The S-Series P0973LN air flow has changed from front to back to improve the
switch's cooling. The SSA switch does not include screws for attaching the SSA
switch to rack posts.

♦ To install the SSA Chassis (P0973KK) managed switch as a rack mounted unit using
the SSA rail kit (shipped with the SSA switch), ensure that the rack used will support
the unit and that the rack will remain stable after installation.
♦ To install the SSA Chassis (P0973LN) managed switch as a rack mounted unit using
the SSA rail kit RH102AA (ordered separately), ensure that the rack used will support
the unit and that the rack will remain stable after installation.

! CAUTION
DO NOT use the RH102AA rack mount kit with the P0973KK chassis. This rack
mount will cause the unit to overheat due to airflow restrictions.

The P0973KK SSA Chassis switch can be mounted in the following types of racks:
♦ For P0973KK (rails supplied) four-post rack - see “Rack Mounting the P0973KK SSA
Switch in a Four-Post Rack” on page 36.
♦ For P0973KK two-post rack (18 cm (7 in) posts) - see “Rack Mounting the P0973KK
SSA Switch in a Two-Post Rack (18 Cm (7 In) Posts)” on page 38.
♦ For P0973KK two-post rack (7.6 cm (3 in) posts) - see “Rack Mounting the
P0973KK SSA Switch in a Two-Post Rack (7.6 Cm (3 In) Posts)” on page 42.
♦ For P0973LN SSA Switch Rack Mount - see “Rack Mounting the P073LN SSA
Switch in a Four-Post Rack” on page 27.

switch.
To attach the rubber feet to the bottom of the SSA switch, proceed as follows:
1. Place the SSA switch upside down on a sturdy, flat surface.
2. Remove the adhesive backing from the four rubber feet.
3. Adhere the rubber feet to the round, recessed areas on the bottom of the SSA switch.

Rack Mounting the P073LN SSA Switch in a Four-Post Rack

NOTE
The P0973LN SSA switch comes with integrated mounting ears that are adequate
for most installations. For slide-in mounting, high vibration, or high shock installa-
tions, an optional rack mount kit (RH102AA) is available.

! CAUTION
The P0973KK SSA switch cannot be mounted using the optional rack mount kit
RH102AA. If the RH102AA mount kit is used, airflow of this unit will be
obstructed, decreasing the unit's MTBF estimates and potentially causing the unit
to fail prematurely.

To install the P073LN SSA Switch in a four-post rack:

1. Remove the rack mount ears from the chassis.
a. Remove the rack mount ears from both sides of the SSA switch before continuing
with the mounting kit installation. See Figure 3-1.

Securing the SSA Switch to a Four-Post Rack Using the Optional Rack
Mount Kit (RH102AA)
This section details the installation of the optional rack mount kit for a four-post rack
and covers installing:
The optional rack mount kit RH102AA contains two pre-assembled rack mount rails
with attached extensions. The length of each assembly is adjustable from 22 inches to
30 inches. Each assembly is labeled either “right front” or “left front”. The front of the
rack is always the cool air intake side. The rear of the rack is always the hot air exhaust
side.
1. Installing the Rack Mount Rail with Attached Extension Assembly Installation
Refer to Figure 3-4 as you perform the following procedure. You must supply eight
rack screws to install the rack mount rails in the equipment rack.
To install the rack mount rail with extension assembly:
a. Adjust the length of the two assemblies (callout 1) to agree with the distance
between the outer face of the vertical rack posts. The screws (callout 5) holding
the assembly together may need to be loosened slightly to allow for the adjust-
ment. Retighten any loosened screws once the adjustment has been made.
b. Install the side of the assembly labeled “right front” (callout 2) on the front (cool
air inlet) right rack post. Secure the assembly to both the front and rear posts,
using rack appropriate screws or fasteners that you supply. Do not use the middle
hole when securing the assembly to the rack post. The middle hole is used to
secure the adapter plate (previously installed on the chassis) to the assembly.
c. Repeat Step b for the assembly labeled “left front”.

2. Installing the chassis in the rack Refer to Figure 3-5 as you perform the following pro-
cedure.
a. Face the front (cool air) side of the rack (callout 1) with the air intake side of the
chassis (callout 2) facing you.
b. Slide the chassis with the installed adapter plates onto the rack mount rails until
the adapter plate ear (callout 3) meets the middle screw hole (callout 4) of the rack
mount rail.
c. Secure the chassis with one screw or fastener appropriate to your rack in each of
two adapter plate ear screw holes. A flange (callout 6), towards the back of each
rail assembly secures the back side of the chassis adapter plate in place. If needed,
loosen the two screws (callout 8) that secure the rear of the rail assembly to the
rack and adjust the rail assembly position for best fit or alignment. Retighten the
two screws.

To secure the SSA switch to the rack:
a. Ensure that the rack mount ears are properly installed as described in “Alternative
Rack Mount Ear Positioning for the P0973LN SSA Switch” on page 32.

! WARNING
Before rack mounting the device, ensure that the rack can support it without com-
promising stability. Otherwise, personal injury and/or equipment damage may
result.

NOTE
The rack mounting ear provides three holes for securing the SSA switch to the rack.
Use at least two screws or fasteners appropriate to your rack on each side when
securing the SSA switch to the rack. Install power supplies after the SSA switch has
been secured to the rack to minimize weight that must be supported when installing
rack screws.

b. Ensure that the rack mount ears are properly installed, based on the previous sec-
tions.

! CAUTION
The P0973KK SSA switch cannot be mounted using the optional rack mount kit
RH102AA. If the RH102AA mount kit is used, airflow of this unit will be
obstructed, decreasing the unit's MTBF estimates and potentially causing the unit
to fail prematurely

NOTE
Use this procedure to install the P0973KK SSA switch in a K50 Server enclosure.

For a four-post rack installation, the SSA rail kit requires that the front to back spacing of the rack
posts be within the range of 62 cm (24.5 in) to 83 cm (32.5 in).
In a four-post rack, the P0973KK SSA switch is flush-mounted on the rails supplied in the SSA
rail kit and secured to the front posts of the rack. If desired, you can secure the rear of the SSA
switch to the rails.
To install the P0973KK SSA switch in a four-post rack:
1. Extend the right and left rails to fit the outside dimensions of the rack posts.
The rails in the P0973KK SSA rail kit are shipped with the rail extensions attached. If
the rails do not slide easily, loosen the screws that secure the rail extensions to the
main rails.
2. Position the right and left rails, which are labeled on the inside of each rail, in the rack
with the bottom lip of the rail facing into the rack.
3. Attach each rail to the rack posts with two screws in the front and two screws in the

mounting ears of the rails.
6. Secure the front of the SSA switch to the rails by screwing the 10-32 screws, included
in the SSA rail kit, into the mounting ears on the right and left front of the SSA
switch.
7. (Optional) Secure the rear of the SSA switch to the rails. See “Securing the SSA
Switch to the Rear of the Rails” below.

Securing the P0973KK SSA Switch to the Rear of the Rails

This optional procedure for securing the P0973KK SSA switch to the rear of the SSA rails applies
to the three rack installation scenarios described before: the four-post rack and both two-post rack
scenarios. We recommend securing the rear of the SSA switch only if you are shipping the rack in
which the SSA switch is installed.
If you plan to secure the left rear corner of the P0973KK SSA switch, you must remove the screw
from the left rear corner of the SSA switch before installing the SSA in the rack. See Figure 3-17.

1 - Remove this screw before installing the SSA switch in the rack.

Figure 3-17. Screw to Remove If You Plan to Secure the Left Rear of the SSA Switch

To secure the rear of the P0973KK SSA switch to the rails, screw the 2-56 screws, included in the
SSA rail kit, into the screw tabs on the right and left rail. See Figure 3-18.

S4 Chassis Switch (P0973KD)

In addition to the discrete switches described above, the S4 chassis-based Ethernet switch (refer to
“S4 Chassis Managed Switch (P0973KD)” on page 5) provides expansion capability. The switch
consists of a tabletop or rack-mountable chassis containing a power supply, cooling fans, and slots
for up to three Ethernet interface cards (blades).
Table 1-2, “S4 Chassis Managed Switch Modules/Uplink Modules” on page 9, lists the Foxboro
part numbers for the S4 Chassis switch and optional interface modules. See Appendix A “Ether-
net Switch Interconnection Diagrams” for configuration options.

Site Installation Guidelines for S4 Chassis Switch (P0973KD)

The following guidelines must be observed when a site is selected for the S4 Chassis managed
switch. If the guidelines are not followed, unsatisfactory network performance may result.
♦ For proper cooling, there must be a minimum amount of clearance 152 mm (6 in)
behind the chassis and 51 mm (2 in) of clearance on either side of the chassis.
♦ If installing the S4 Chassis managed switch as a freestanding unit on a shelf, ensure
that the shelf can support a minimum weight of approximately 24.7 kg (54.45 lb) per
fully loaded chassis plus the weight of the connected network cables. The weight
includes the chassis, fan tray, two power supplies, and three modules.
♦ The S4 Chassis managed switch may be mounted in a 19” rack such as in the K50
Server enclosure.
♦ If installed in an enclosure other than the K50 or G50 Server enclosure, be aware that
the air flow for the S-Series switches is different from other the control network
switches and this may impact the air circulation in the enclosure.
♦ If installing the S4 Chassis managed switch in an equipment rack, ensure that the rack
can support and remain stable with the chassis installed.
♦ Each P0973KE or P0973LJ AC power supply requires a three-pronged power recepta-
cle capable of delivering the current and voltage specified below. An AC outlet on a
separately fused circuit is required for each P0973KE or P0973LJ supply to provide
power redundancy, and must be located within 1.8 m (6 ft) from the site. The power
cord used and type of outlet is dependent on the country. In the United States, a
power cord with a NEMA 5-20P plug is provided with each P0973KE supply and a
NEMA 5-15P plug is provided with each P0973LJ supply.
♦ Ambient temperature at the installation site must be maintained between 5° and 40°C
(41° to 104°F). Temperature changes must be maintained within 10°C (18°F) per
hour.

Configuring the Switches

All managed switches require configuration before they are added to the control network.
Refer to “Switch Configuration” on page 53.

52
4. Switch Configuration
This chapter describes the steps necessary to configure the S-Series Chassis switches as part of
The Foxboro Evo Control Network.

Configuring Ethernet Switches

There are two methods available to configure these switches:
♦ The Foxboro Evo or I/A Series Switch Configurator Application Software, and
♦ Command Line Interface (CLI).

The Switch Configurator Application Software (SCAS)

The Foxboro Evo or I/A Series Switch Configurator Application Software (SCAS) was created for
Foxboro customers as a configuration tool for qualified Ethernet switches in the control network.
It reduces the repetitive Command Line Interface (CLI) command entries which are required to
configure the control network switches, by allowing users to customize configuration files that
define a set of CLI commands downloadable via the serial port. SCAS supports the S-Series
Chassis switches and their uplink modules:
Refer to Switch Configurator Application Software Guide for the Foxboro Evo Control Network
(B0700CA) document for information on how to use SCAS. The latest version of the tool and its
documentation are available on the Global Customer Support Center web site at
http://support.ips.invensys.com
After logging in to the web page, go to: Support -> Foxboro -> Product Information ->
Briefs/Product Releases -> then select MESH Network Switches Documentation
Details on downloading SCAS are provided in Switch Configurator Application Software Guide for
the Foxboro Evo Control Network (B0700CA) document, in the section “Getting the Latest Con-
figuration Revision”.
Customers are encouraged to download and use the latest documentation and configurator tools
on the Global Customer Support Center web site.

Command Line Interface (CLI) Entries

This chapter provides instructions and specific CLI entries that must be typed and entered into
the switches for proper operation of the control network.

Logging In
By default, the S-Series switches are configured with three user login accounts:
♦ ro for Read-Only access
♦ rw for Read-Write access
♦ admin for superuser access to all modifiable parameters.

53
B0700CE – Rev D 4. Switch Configuration

The default password is set to a blank string. For information on changing these default settings,
refer to Switch Configurator Application Software Guide for the Foxboro Evo Control Network
(B0700CA, Rev. W or later) document, in the section “Changing Switch Password and Settings.”

Configuration Requirements
All managed switches require configuration before they are added to the control network.

! CAUTION
Switches should be configured off line before they are connected to the control net-
work.

Configuration of managed switches is accomplished by connecting a terminal (or a computer run-

ning terminal emulation software) to the serial console port on the switch and using the switch’s
resident management software to set the parameters. Refer to “Connecting Ethernet Switch to the
PC” on page 55. For customized switch configurations, refer to the documentation that comes
with the switch for command line entry instructions on configuring a specific switch model.
To avoid the possibility of address conflicts, IP addresses for managed switches are automatically
assigned by the system configurator (SysDef or IACC). Once the configurator has selected the IP
addresses, each switch must be configured with its IP address (refer to “The Foxboro Evo Control
Network and Other Associated Foxboro Evo-Related Addresses” in The Foxboro Evo Control Net-
work Architecture Guide (B0700AZ)). For information on using the system configurator, refer to:
♦ System Definition: A Step-by-Step Procedure (B0193WQ) or
♦ I/A Series Configuration Component (IACC) User's Guide (B0700FE).
While using SysDef record the address of the station monitoring the switch. There is a switch
parameter named TRAP under the SNMP Configuration menu that you should set based on this
IP address.

! CAUTION
Do not mirror active ports to other used ports. Doing so results in an excessive
increase in the traffic levels routed by the switches.

NOTE
When adding a switch or blade to the network, clear the NVRAM, or return the
switch to the Factory Default Configuration to obtain default settings before con-
figuring the switch.

NOTE
Uplink ports should be installed and configured first. Otherwise, configured infor-
mation may be lost when the uplink ports are installed.

This chapter provides generic configuration information that applies to all Ethernet switches and
specific procedures for the switches that have been tested and qualified by Foxboro for use with
Foxboro Evo Process Automation Systems. The configuration information is presented as follows:

♦ “Connecting Ethernet Switch to the PC” on page 55
♦ “Configuring the S-Series Chassis Switches” on page 57.

Connecting Ethernet Switch to the PC

The Network Administrator computer (laptop recommended) needs to be connected to the
switch’s CLI port (for example, serial port) through the computer’s COM port using the serial
cable provided with the switch.
Figure 4-1 shows the connection from a PC to the Ethernet switches.
For the S-Series Chassis switches, a CAT 5 cable with RJ-45 plugs is connected to the CLI port on
the blade. A 9-pin D connector to RJ-45 plug adaptor is required to connect the switch to the PC.
The cable and adaptor/connectors are customer-supplied.

root switches. Multiple root switches can be configured to take over as roots by adjusting the
Bridge Priority Value. However, normally only two roots exist, primary and backup root switch,
all other switches are defined as edge switches.

Configuring the S-Series Chassis Switches

The S-Series Chassis switches SSA (P0973KK/LN) and S4 (P0973KD) must be booted with a
supported version of Foxboro Evo qualified and compatible firmware. (Refer to the Appendix
“Qualified Switch Firmware Compatibilities Matrix” in Switch Configurator Application Software
Guide for the Foxboro Evo Control Network (B0700CA) for supported versions.)
To configure the Chassis switches SSA (P0973KK/LN), and S4 (P0973KD), refer to Switch Con-
figurator Application Software Guide for the Foxboro Evo Control Network (B0700CA) and use the
latest Switch Configurator Application Software (SCAS) to configure this switch.

Resetting Password
The switch’s Command Line Interface (CLI) locks out after three incorrect password attempts
and remains locked out for 15 minutes. The Reset Password jumper remains non-functional
for those 15 minutes.

NOTE
Power must be applied to the unit before the 15 minute lockout can expire.

If you forget the switch’s login password, use the Reset Password jumper as described in the fol-
lowing procedure.

To reset the S-Series switch password, proceed as follows:

1. In Figure 4-2 and Figure 4-3, changing the position of jumper switch 8 clears the
admin password and restores the factory default password on the next power-up of the
module. Once the module resets, you can either use the factory default settings or
reenter your own password.
2. Login to the device management (see “Logging In” on page 53). Now, you can login
to the switch via the console port and assign a new password. For information on
changing the password settings, refer to Switch Configurator Application Software
Guide for the Foxboro Evo Control Network (B0700CA, Rev. W or later) document, in
the section “Changing Switch Password and Settings.”
