process for a comparison essay.

Homework for this week:

2. Using the guide, examples, and mindset coaching below, explore your issue or topic
using the text you are studying.

discoveries.
4. Turn in your topic, explanation, and thoughts and discoveries.

What we are looking for as we assess.

1. You choose a character comparison that the story invites you to.
2. That you explain why this comparison is significant. This should be authentic to you. It's
okay if you don’t have it all figured out. Share what you think as of right now.
3. The discoveries you listed in your research can be supported with details and ideas from
the text.

Deciding on your Topic

The Topic: Choose the 2 characters that you will compare. Remember, the book should offer
them up as a comparison.

I am comparing:
Madame Defarge and Ms Pross

Why this comparison is significant:

Madame Defarge and Miss Pross clash instantly at their first meeting. This tension eventually
ends in a face off at the end of the book

Topic:
Terms:
Notes: Be sure to describe the difference or similarity rather than simply listing the difference or
similarity. Add each discovery to your chosen way of capturing your thoughts and discoveries.

Add rows as needed to complete your invention work.

Comparison Part 1:
Both Do (verbs) Difference in degree Difference in kind

● Not like each other Ms Pross just shows some Ms Pross does not like
moderate distaste, while Madame Defarge out of her
Madame Defarge shows cold protectiveness of Lucy
hatred.

Both have (nouns they both

have)

● Fiery personalities Ms Pross' fiery personality is Ms Pross is protective and

stronger than madame loving, Madame Defarge is
Defarge's. Although Spiteful and Revengeful.
Defarge's is more noticeable,
Ms Pross eventually shows
how much stronger who
loving protectiveness over
Defarge's Vengefulness

Both experiences

The French revolution Defarge experiences it from

the beginning, Ms Pross
experiences much later

Both are (adj)

Comparison Part 2:

Person 1 Topic, Detail, Idea Person 2

Madame Defarge lost her Abandoned as a child Ms Pross was straight up

sister and her brother. abandoned by her brother,
but she assumed the best of
him because she's a kind
person.

How do Person 1 and Person 2 relate to each other? How do they differ in how they relate
to the story? What, if any, significance does this hold for the story? Share your thoughts
freely.

They do not like each other at all. Despite being placed in similar conditions growing up,
Madame Defarge and Ms Pross turned out to be very different people thanks to the choices
they made. Mirroring how Carton and Darnay's choices affected how their life turned out,
Madame Defarge and Ms Pross made very different decisions that changed their lives and the
lives of people around them. Ms Pross became a kind, loyal person, who took Lucy under her
wing. She started a domino effect which affected Lucy, Dr. Manette, Mr. Lorry, Charles Darnay,
Sydney Carton, and Mr. Cruncher for the better. She Clashes with Madame Defarge because
Madame Defarge does the opposite, making people's lives worse, chopping off innocent
people's heads, all for vengeance.
In conclusion, Ms Pross was listening to doom music a bit too loud while she was pounding
Madame defarge into the ground, which is why she went deaf.
