7. Answer in 1-2 sentences

a) What is a computer system?
A computer system is a basic and functional computer which
consists of input devices, processing device, output devices
and storage medium. Input will be given through input
devices and it will be processed by processor and output
which will be stored in storage device will be sent through
output devices.

b) What is a graphic tablet?

It is an input device which has a stylus to write on it.
Digitizer is used to draw images on the computer as well as to
give instruction to the computer.
c) Write down the difference between hardware and
software.
Any physical part of a computer which you can touch, feel
and hold is called as hardware. Set of related instruction to
perform a particular task is called as software.

d) Write a short note on dot matrix printer and laser

printer.
Laser printer uses laser technology to print and it is very fast
and expensive. Dot matrix printer has movable print head
with pins which strikes on the ribbon.

e) Why would you prefer laser printer over dot matrix

printer and ink jet printer? Give reason
Laser printer gives the print very fast and with high quality
compared to the dot matrix and ink jet printer. The speed of
the printer is given in ppm (pages per minute).

f) Differentiate between impact and non-impact printer.

Impact printer operated by striking a metal or plastic head
against an ink ribbon. eg: dot matrix printer
A printer which prints without banging a ribbon onto a paper
is called as non-impact printer. Eg: ink jet printer

g) What is touch mouse?

Touch mouse is touch sensitive which recognizes touch on
the button. To scroll the pages, you have to sweep your
thumb on the mouse, press on the mouse to stimulate a click
etc.

f) What is the use of touch pad?

It is a pressure sensitive, flat surface used in notebook
computers. It is used as mouse pointer by moving your
finger along the surface of the pad.
h) Differentiate between CD-R and CD-RW
In Compact Disc Recordable you can record texts, images,
audio on both sides only for one time.
CD-RW (Read Write) allows you to write and re write
multiple times by using CD/DVD-RW software and
CD/DVD-RW drive.

8. Answer Briefly:-

a. Define optical discs and explain its types

Ans:- An optical disc is a type of storage media that consists of a flat ,
round ,portable disc made of metal ,plastic and lacquer that is written
and read by a laser. Some are
Read Only – Users cannot write (save) on the media.
Read/Write – Users can save data on the disc just as they save on hard
disk.

b. What is CPU? Describe its units.

Ans:- CPU(Central Processing Unit) is the processing device of a
computer. It is a brain of the computer. It processes data into
information

CPU is divided into three units:-

ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit )- performs arithmetic, comparison and

logical operations.

CU(Control unit )- controls all the functions of computer.

MU (Memory Unit) – holds the data for future use.

c. Write the benefits of computer.

Ans:- The benefits of the computer are as below:

1. Speed
2. Quality
3. Reliability
4. Storage capacity
5. Versatility

d. How does computer work?

Ans:- Computer works in 4 parts:

It inputs data, process data, displays information and then finally

stores it.

e. Define Touch screen. Write any three gestures and common

use of touch screen
Ans:- A touch screen is a screen that you can touch with your
finger to input information . Your finger acts as a pointing
device. Tablet, PC, Smart phone and ATM use touch screen to
input instructions.

f. What is the use of Storage device? Explain the various

types?
Ans:- The storage device enable you to store data and information
They can hold data ,instructions and information for future
use.
The different storage devices are as below:-
