SEMI-DETAILED 4A’s LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 8

Prepared by: Badayos, Angilee V.

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
 Identify Circular Permutation.
 Solve problems involving Circular Permutation.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Circular Permutations
Reference: Statistics I Learning Guide by Sir Nelson Tejara
Materials: Laptop/Android Phone, PowerPoint, Google Meet, Pen&Paper,
Google form, and Quizziz
Value Integration: Cooperation

III. Procedures
A. Routinary Activities
a. Prayer
The teacher will present a video prayer.
b. Checking of Attendance
The teacher will check the students' attendance by asking them to
comment on (chat box) an adjective that describes their day.
A. Activity Proper
a. Lesson Review
Students will be asked what the topic discussed from the previous
meeting was.
b. Motivation

Guess the Picture!

1.

___g

2.

3.

c. Analysis
 What can you say about the picture?
 What did you notice about the shape of each object in the picture?

d. Abstraction
The teacher will present the topic circular permutation to the students.

Circular Permutation
It pertains to the arrangement of objects in a circular pattern.

Case 1: The number of permutations of n distinct objects arranged in a

circular pattern given by the formula:
𝑃 = (𝑛 − 1)!
Example :
1. In how many ways can six children sit a round table?
Solution:
Given: 𝑛 = 6
𝑃 = (𝑛 − 1)!
= (6 − 1)!
= 5!
= 5𝑥4𝑥3𝑥2𝑥1
= 120 𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠
(

2. In how many ways may the vertices of a regular heptagon be named

with the letters A, B, C, D, E, F & G?

Given: 𝑛 = 7
𝑃 = (𝑛 − 1)!
= (7 − 1)!
= 6!
= 6𝑥5𝑥4𝑥3𝑥2𝑥1
= 720
( 𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠

3. In how many ways can eight people sit around the table:
 There are no restrictions?
Solution:
Given: 𝑛 = 8
𝑃 = (𝑛 − 1)!
𝑃 = (8 − 1)!
= 7!
= 7𝑥6𝑥5𝑥4𝑥3𝑥2𝑥1
= 5,040
( 𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠

 Two insist on sitting next to each other?

Solution:

Given: 𝑛 = 7
𝑃 = (𝑛 − 1)!
𝑃 = (7 − 1)! ∗ 2!
= 6! ∗ 2!
= 6𝑥5𝑥4𝑥3𝑥2𝑥1𝑥2𝑥1
= 720𝑥2
= 1140
( 𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠

 Three insist on sitting next to one another?

Given: 𝑛 = 6
𝑃 = (𝑛 − 1)!
𝑃 = (6 − 1)! ∗ 3!
= 5! ∗ 3!
= 5𝑥4𝑥3𝑥2𝑥1𝑥3𝑥2𝑥1
=( 120𝑥6
= 720 𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠

Case 2: The number of circular permutation of n different things around

a key ring and the like:
(𝑛 − 1)!
𝑃=
2
Example:

4. In how many ways can 12 keys be arranged on a key ring?

Given: 𝑛 = 12
(𝑛 − 1)!
𝑃=
2
(12 − 1)!
𝑃=
2

11!
𝑃=
2
11𝑥10𝑥9𝑥8𝑥7𝑥6𝑥5𝑥4𝑥3𝑥2𝑥1
=
2

= 39,
( 916, 800 𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠

5. In how many ways can eight different colored beads be arranged on a

bracelet?
Given: 𝑛 = 8
(𝑛 − 1)!
𝑃=
2
(8 − 1)!
𝑃=
2

7!
𝑃=
2
7𝑥6𝑥5𝑥4𝑥3𝑥2𝑥1
=
2

= 2,(520 𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠

e. Application
Game Quiz! (Done Via Quizziz)
1. What do we call a permutation that is the number of ordered arrangement
that can be made of n objects in a circle?

a. Permutation
b. Like Permutation
c. Circular Permutation
d. Basic Permutation

2. How many different ways can a family of 6 sit a round table if they may sit
in any way?

a. 60
b. 120
c. 24
d. 720

3. In how many ways can a 4 people be seated in a circular table?

a. 120
b. 24
c. 6
d. 720

4. How many bracelets with no lock can be formed from 7 different colored
beads?

a. 720
b. 360
c. 450
d. 120

5. Nine keys are to be arranged in a key ring. How many different

arrangements are there?

a. 360
b. 20,160
c. 720
d. 40,320

IV. Assessment
Direction: Identify whether the following word problems are example of a Like
Permutation or Circular Permutation. Write CP if it is a Circular Permutation
and LP if Like Permutation. (Done Via G-form)

2. In how many ways can the letters in the word “STATISTICS” be arranged?
3. How many permutations are there of the letters in the word HAPPY?
4. In how many ways can the 8 swimmers on an acquatic ballet be arranged
in a circular pattern?
5. In how many ways can eight different colored beads be arranged on a
bracelet?

V. Assignment
Answer each of the following problems systematically and accurately. Provide
a complete solution.

1. On the buffet there are 10 different appetizers from which to choose. The
appetizers are arrange on a revolving tray. How many ways can the
appetizers be organized?
2. How many ways can 7 beads be placed on a bracelet with no clasp?
3. How many distinguishable ways can 12 people be seated around a circular
table?
4. In how many ways can 6 married couples seat themselves around a circular
table if:
a. Spouses sit opposite each other
b. Men and women alternate
