1. Introduction
We recommend to do the STEEL tutorials which is a really good training before starting your own model.

Depending of your experience with 3D modelling software, choose your favorite way of doing it:

- Experienced user tutorial: try to obtain final results based on picture.

- Beginner user: follow the step-by-step tutorial.

2. Experienced user tutorial: final picture

Open Tutorial-3-partitions1.steel database and create the following partitions as described here below:

3. Beginner user: step-by-step tutorial

Beam properties filter:

1. Open Tutorial-3-partitions-initial.steel database.

2. Open model filter panel.
3. Show the color mode “properties group by plating” by either selecting it in the combo box

or clicking on button :

4. To understand how it is working, click on to hide and show standard profiles with bottom plating

This button controls the visibility of beams. You should obtain the following view of the model for example:

Beam properties filter is automatically created based on beam properties whereas partition filter has each set and
subset defined by the users.

Tips: Before starting to create partition set, keep it mind that you have the display tools and the selection tools to
orientate your model in the best view to make an easy selection:

Partition filter

1. Show all beams of the model: all in beam properties filter should be visible.

2. Select the upper deck by using the box selection all inside ( z location = 6000mm)

3. Create a partition with the name: “upper deck”.

4. Click on to show the z location.

5. Create a new set in the current partition with all beams at z = 3200mm and name it: “Internal deck”.
6. Create another set with all internal beams of the ship and name it: “internal members”
7. Finally create the last set with all remaining beams and named it “sideshell”

8. Select the new color mode of “Partition 1” :

To validate your model, check the number of beams per set. It should be the same as the picture above.

Congratulations, now you know how to create partitions and hide and show beams.
