Editing UVs with UV editor

Editing UVs with the UV Editor in Maya:
The UV Editor in Maya allows you to adjust the 2D layout of your model’s
UVs for better texture mapping. Here's a quick guide on how to edit UVs:
Steps to Edit UVs:
1. Open the UV Editor:
o Select the object you want to edit.

o Go to Windows > Modeling Editors > UV Editor to open the UV

layout.
2. Select the UVs:
o In the UV Editor, switch to UV Selection Mode by right-clicking
and choosing UV.
o You can select individual UVs, UV shells (groups of UVs), or
edges.
3. Move, Scale, and Rotate UVs:
o Move: Select UVs and use the Move Tool (W) to reposition them
in the 2D space.
o Scale: Select UVs and use the Scale Tool (R) to adjust their
size.
o Rotate: Use the Rotate Tool (E) to rotate selected UVs.

4. Unfold UVs:
o If the UVs are distorted, you can use the Unfold tool (found
under UV > Unfold) to automatically straighten them out.
5. Relax UVs:
o Use Relax (under UV > Relax) to smooth out the UV shells and
reduce distortion, helping to make the texture look even.
6. Apply and Check the Texture:
o Make sure the texture fits correctly by adjusting the UVs. You
can view the applied texture in the Viewport by enabling
Textured display mode.
Conclusion:
The UV Editor in Maya lets you efficiently manipulate UVs, allowing you to
unwrap, scale, and align the UVs for accurate texture mapping. Proper UV
editing ensures your textures apply correctly to 3D models.
