Reflection 4
From this lesson on scoring rubrics and as a future
teacher, I resolve to… Understand that there were a lot of things to consider in making scoring rubrics and it is somehow a bit complicated in making one. I always thought that making a scoring rubric was just a basic job that all you need to do is to put the necessary descriptions that are suitable to what is being scored. It turns out that there are numerous processes that a scoring rubric should undergo and tons of considerations to make to have an appropriate scoring rubric for the performance of the students. I also realized that each scoring rubric has a different purpose and use in the field of scoring the performance of the students. I always thought that all scoring rubrics are just the same, they have the same matrix and it is just necessary for the evaluators themselves. But in reality, the students who are being subjected to the scoring rubrics can also use the scoring rubrics to be their guide in doing their activity. With that, there is a higher chance for them to have higher grades because they already know what to do to have higher grades. In all honesty, we know that some students don't know the true essence of scoring rubrics and they sometimes don't even bother to browse the content of it. I am one of those students who think that a scoring rubric is just a piece of decoration in an activity sheet. But as I learned about the essence of a scoring rubric, I now always read first the content of it before starting to work on my output. With that, I noticed a huge improvement in the scores of my activity. It is as if I learned a new life hack to improve my performance in our institution. I am glad that we had the chance to study scoring rubrics because I now know how to learn and work smart without sacrificing my studies. And lastly, I just understand that scoring rubrics also gives the students the feedback that they want to hear even though they are still not doing anything. It is within their hands to identify what feedback they want to achieve after doing the activity.
