GCCs synergize AI and data analytics to address challenges of modern healthcare

Nandita Vijayasimha, Bengaluru
Monday, December 23, 2024, 08:00 Hrs [IST]

Global Capability Centres (GCCs) play a pivotal role to address challenges of modern healthcare with the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data
analytics . With Industry 5.0, healthcare is moving towards a future where human intelligence is supplemented by AI and automation, enabling
personalized, efficient, and accessible healthcare solutions.

As AI continues to evolve, its ability to analyze vast amounts of data will further improve decision-making and pave the way for innovative treatments
and preventive measures. This synergy allows GCCs to play a key role in reshaping the healthcare landscape, driving innovation, and improving patient
outcomes globally, said Nilay Shastri, General Manager, Roche Services & Solutions India, Roche Digital Center of Excellence India.

Additionally, by fostering collaboration among various stakeholders, GCCs can ensure that these advancements improve access to healthcare too.
Ultimately, the integration of technology and collaboration will empower patients and healthcare providers alike, leading to a more equitable and efficient
healthcare system, he added.

Industry 5.0 shifts healthcare from mass production to mass personalization, with automation and AI enabling professionals to focus on complex tasks
like case management, research, and treatment. Collaborative robots (cobots) enhance surgical precision, allowing surgeons and the teams to engage
in more intellectually stimulating activities. AI improves decision-making and enables personalized medicine tailored to an individual’s genetics. Real-
time health monitoring and data sharing boost care quality, though secure, compliant data infrastructure is essential. AI also automates tasks such as
diagnostics and drug discovery, while wearable devices and advanced manufacturing enable early diagnosis and personalised medical solutions. As
technology continues to evolve, the integration of AI and cobots will inevitably transform both patient experiences and outcomes, leading to a healthier
future for all, Shastri told Pharmabiz in an email.

Here GCCs in India are playing a crucial role in driving healthcare innovation using AI, data analytics, and automation. These centers are advancing
drug discovery by leveraging computational chemistry and bioinformatics, enabling faster and more cost-effective research and development, he noted.

Further, GCCs enhance supply chain management, ensuring efficient drug delivery and inventory management. By integrating technologies such as big
data, cloud computing, and automation, these GCCs are not only improving operational efficiencies but also advancing research for personalised
healthcare solutions and clinical practices globally. With their deep expertise and access to a vast talent pool, India’s GCCs are set to continue shaping
the future of global healthcare innovation. This synergy will not only drive research and development but also enhance patient outcomes through tailored
treatment options, said Shastri.

Looking ahead, healthcare will be defined by the five Ps: preventive, predictive, personalized, peace of mind, and point-of-care. AI-driven solutions will
deliver real-time, customized treatment plans that cater to individual needs. As India continues to grow as a hub for healthcare innovation, GCCs will
play a pivotal role in advancing AI-driven drug development, personalized treatments, and operational efficiency. This will make healthcare more
accessible, affordable, and effective for all, he said

The synergy between AI and GCCs is transforming healthcare, driving personalization, enhancing care quality, and offering innovative solutions. As this
integration evolves, it will ensure that the future of healthcare is not only technologically advanced but also human-centered, said Shastri.
