Word that introduces/modifies a noun by


Determiner showing quantity, possession, or specificity. This book is mine.

A type of determiner that specifies whether a

Relative Pronoun Connects a main clause to a subordinate clause. The boy who won is my friend.

Gerund The -ing form of a verb that functions as a noun. Swimming is fun.

Infinitive The base form of a verb, often preceded by 'to'. I love to read.
Expresses ability, possibility, necessity, or
Modal Verb permission. You must study.

Mood The way a verb expresses the speaker's attitude. If I were rich, I would travel. (Subjunctive)

Interjection Words that express emotion or surprise. Wow! That's amazing.

Clause A group of words with a subject and verb. When it rains, I stay home.

Independent Clause A clause that can stand alone as a sentence. I like pizza.
Dependent Clause A clause that cannot stand alone. Because it was late, we left.

Tense Indicates when the action of the verb happens. She studies (present), She studied (past).

Object The receiver of the action in a sentence. I bought a book.

Direct Object The noun directly receiving the action. She is eating an apple.
Indirect Object The noun benefiting from the action. I gave him a present.

Complement Completes the meaning of a verb or subject. She is tired.

Preposition time. The book is on the table.
Conjunction Connects words, phrases, or clauses. I like tea and coffee.
Noun A person, place, thing, or idea. Dog, happiness, city.
Pronoun A word that replaces a noun. He is my friend.
Adjective A word that describes a noun. The blue car is fast.

Adverb Modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb. She speaks quickly.

Subject The person or thing performing the action. John is running.


The part of the sentence that tells something
