5 Checking of lateral deflection and story drift due to wind
Overall lateral deflection: < height/360 (the building is not equipped with celling or additional
attachment. As per the actual requirement, the limitation on lateral deflection can be greater as normal
building which is H/400).

Building height H= 43.5m

Allowable lateral deflection 5600/360 = 15.6 mm
Maximum lateral deflection 12.22 mm < 15.6 mm (Accepted)

Therefore, the structural system is satisfied with lateral deflection.

6 Design of Critical Bent Column
The most critical column is occurred in the member as mentioned below. Its factored internal force is
summary in the table below. Conservatively, the calculated lengths of column are counted as the total
length of its bent length. Its unbracing length is 5.6m along its bending direction. The manual design
spreadsheet in Smath is shown as below.

All columns are reinforced with the same reinforcements, so that only the most critical
column can be checked manually (Midas Design+ is used to design the column). The short columns
supporting the bent columns are automatically satisfied the design due to its lower internal forces
comparing with the slump column C400x400mm.
