Overview
You can install the Data Transformation design environment on a Windows computer, and you can install the
Data Transformation production environment on a Linux, UNIX, or Windows computer.
The production environment is also known as Data Transformation Engine. The design environment is made
up of Data Transformation Engine and Data Transformation Studio.
Installation Steps
1. Verify the system requirements.
2. Complete the pre-installation tasks.
3. Install the design environment or the production environment.
4. Complete the post-installation tasks.
5. Test and troubleshoot the installation.
6. Customize the Data Transformation system settings.
Note: This quick start describes general installation steps. For detailed instructions, such as steps required
for certain platforms or features, see the Data Transformation Installation and Configuration Guide.
1
Verify the Minimum System Requirements
The following table describes the minimum system hardware requirements for the Data Transformation
design environment and production environment:
Note: If the Windows machine already has Informatica Server installed, you must first uninstall Data
Transformation Engine.
Windows
On a 32-bit or 64-bit Windows machine, run the graphical or silent server installer.
• For a Data Transformation Engine installed without Informatica Platform, install the license on each
production environment machine.
• For a Linux or UNIX installation, configure the environment variables for each user.
• Configure the invocation of Data Transformation Engine.
• Configure Data Transformation.
• For an Engine installation on a cluster of identical machines, configure the method of storage for the
repository.
• For an Engine installation that requires two or more configurations, create copies of the configuration file
for each user.
• Assign permissions to users and applications. For more information, see the Data Transformation
Administrator Guide.
• Install optional libraries. For more information, see the Data Transformation Libraries Guide.
• Restore backed-up files. For more information, see Pre-Installation Task List
• Use the configuration editor to configure preferences, such as the location of user logs or the location of
the repository.
• Run Data Transformation, and then configure project properties.
Note: To use the configuration editor on Linux or UNIX machines, you must first set the DISPLAY
environment variable.
