Math8 q1 w5 d2 Linear-Equation-in-Two-Variables M8AL-Ie-3 v1.

This document outlines a lesson plan for Grade 8 mathematics focusing on linear equations in two variables, specifically in the form Ax + By = C. It includes objectives for defining and evaluating these equations, examples, and activities for students to practice identifying linear equations. Additionally, it provides an answer key and references for further study.

TOPIC Linear Equations in two Variables
LEARNING
illustrates linear equations in two variables.(M8AL-Ie-3)
COMPETENCY
OBJECTIVES 1. define linear equations in two variables;
2. determine the value of A, B, and C in Ax+ By=C ; and
3. evaluate linear equations in two variables .
IMPORTANT: Do not write anything on this material. Write your answer on your answer
sheets.

There are Mathematical equations being introduced to learners,

however one of the equations is the linear equation in two variables in
the form Ax + By = C, where A, B and C are real numbers and A & B ≠
0.

Here are some examples of linear equations in two variables,

and the values of A, B, and C in each equation.

1. x + y = 5 A = 1, B = 1, C = 5 In equation 1, x + y = 5, what will

be the value of y if x= 3 to satisfy
2. 2x–4 = 4y - 2 the equation?
2x - 4y = 2 A =2, B= -4, C = 0 x+y=5
3+y=5
3 – 3 + y = 5- 3
3. y = -6x y=2
6x + y = 0 A= 6, B = , C = 0

4. =
6(x + 5) = 4(y -4)
6x + 30= 4y -16
6x - 4y = -46 A=6, B = -4, C= -46

Things to remember in identifying linear equation in two variables:

 It has two variables.
 There is NO more than one variable in each term.
 The exponent of the variable in each term is 1 (or the degree of the
equation is 1).
 There is NO variable in the denominator.
 There is NO variable inside radical sign.
 Generally, it is written in the form.
Activity 1: Yes or No!
Direction: Write YES if each equation below is a linear equation in two variables,
otherwise, NO. Write your answer on your notebook.

1. 3 x−11 y=7
2. 5 x 2+ 4 y=6
1
3. x− y =−9

1
4. +8 √ y=10
x
5. y−2 x−15=0

Activity 2: FIND ME
Direction: Determine whether or not each equation is a linear equation in two
variables. If so, identify A, B and C. Write LE if it is a linear equation in two variables
then NLE if it is not a linear equation in two variables. Supply the answer in each box.
Write your answer on your notebook.

LE/ NLE A B C
1.2x +y =7
2.x²+5x+6=0
3.y= x
4.x = 3y +7
5. 5x-13= -y
6. x + 6 = 2y + 11
7. x²- 9x + 18 = 0
8. y + 8x = 2
9. x + 6 = -2
10. y = 5
Direction: Read and understand each statement carefully. Write your answer in your
notebook.
