weight yarn like Caron one pound or an ‘aran’ weight yarn if
available.
Hook: Size K (7mm)
For yarn weights other than worsted, use 3 hook
sizes larger than the recommended hook
size for your yarn

Glossary of Terms
Ch=Chain
Sl St=Slip Stitch
Dc=Double Crochet

Stats + Facts
The finished sarong/shawl
measures 43 inches (109cm) from corner to
corner for the S/M and 50 inches (129cm) for the L/XL
Down the center, the sarong measures 20.5in (52cm) for the
S/M and 25in (63.5cm) for the L/XL

This project is worked from the inside out and your sarong
will grow in a triangle shape as you work.
Pattern
To begin, Ch4 and sl st to join
Row 1: Ch3 (this counts as your first dc) and make 3 more
dc into the ring. Ch2 and make 4dc into the ring.
Row 2:
 Ch3 and turn your work (vertically) and make 3 more dc
into the last stitch of the previous row.
 Ch1 and make 3dc into the chain 2 space from the
previous row. Ch2 and make 3dc into the same chain
space.
 Ch1 and make 4dc into the top of your turning chain
from the previous row.
Row 3:
 Ch3 and turn your work. Make 3dc into the last stitch
from the previous row.
 Ch1 and make 3dc into the next chain space.
 Ch1 and make 3dc into the ch2 space from the previous
row. Ch2 and make 3dc into the same chain space.
 Ch1 and make 3dc into the next chain space.
 Ch1 and make 4dc into the top of your turning chain
from the previous row.
For rows 4+ begin each row with ch3, 3dc, ch1 followed by
3dc, ch1 into every chain space. The point of the triangle
will be 3dc, ch2, 3dc all in the ch2 space from the previous
row.
Effectively, your corners will have 4dc (including your
turning chain), your center point will have 3dc, ch2, 3dc and
into each ch1 space you will make 3dc followed by ch1.
Continue in this fashion for 21 rows for S/M or 25 rows L/XL
or until your sarong is as long as you’d like.
Feel free to experiment with different yarn sizes. You can
try-on your project as you work to figure out how many rows
you need. Here is a photo of this same sarong done in size 2
‘sport’ weight yarn and 24 rows for a S/M.

Bind off and weave in your ends. To add the fringe, wrap
your yarn around a book or dvd case length-wise and cut
along the top edge. Take 4 strands of yarn for each fringe
bundle, fold the bundle in half and add one bundle to each
outer chain 1 space.
There you have it!
