D. Activities to be Undertaken
September 2024
Needs Assessment and Planning
1. Conduct Surveys: Gather input from learners, teachers, and
stakeholders to understand their preferences and ideas for the garden.
This will ensure the garden meets the needs and interests of the school
community.
2. Define Learning Objectives: Establish clear goals for the garden,
focusing on themes of environmental awareness, resilience, and
aesthetic appreciation. This will guide the design and functionality of
the space.
3. Design Garden Layout: Plan the layout of the garden to include
relaxing areas, interactive elements, and educational displays. This will
ensure the garden is both functional and engaging.
Resource and Material Acquisition
1. Procure Plants and Materials: Acquire a variety of plants, garden
tools, and materials needed for landscaping and creating garden
features. This includes selecting plant species that are suitable for the
local climate and soil.
2. Develop Educational Materials: Create informational signs,
brochures, and interactive elements that educate visitors about
environmental conservation and the benefits of green spaces.
3. Gather Art Supplies: Obtain materials for artistic elements such as
murals, sculptures, and garden decorations. This will add visual
interest and creativity to the garden.
Garden Installation and Decoration
1. Plant and Arrange: Implement the garden design by planting
flowers, shrubs, and trees according to the planned layout. This
includes arranging plants to create aesthetically pleasing and
functional spaces.
2. Install Educational and Artistic Features: Set up educational
displays and art installations that reflect environmental themes and
enhance the garden’s appeal.
3. Integrate Technology: Where applicable, incorporate technology
such as QR codes for interactive learning or digital displays to provide
additional information about the garden and its features.
Teacher and Learner Orientation
1. Train Teachers: Conduct workshops for teachers to demonstrate how
to use the garden as an educational resource and integrate it into their
teaching activities.
2. Orient Learners: Organize sessions for learners to introduce them to
the garden, its purpose, and how they can engage with and benefit
from the space.
Ongoing Evaluation and Improvement
1. Collect Feedback: Regularly seek feedback from teachers, learners,
and stakeholders to assess the garden’s effectiveness and areas for
improvement.
2. Update and Maintain: Continuously update educational materials
and garden features based on feedback and changing needs to keep
the garden relevant and engaging.
