Preparing to Present

Overview
Designing a slide show can be a lengthy process, but with the
Explore feature in Google Slides, it can be almost effortless. As you
work, Explore generates design suggestions based on the content
of your slides. Select the option you like best, and you will have a
professionally designed presentation. While it’s still essential to learn
basic rules of slide design, Explore can be a huge help when you
need to quickly format an attractive-looking presentation. Another In this lesson, you will
notable addition to Slides is the interactive Q&A feature. With this design a slide show using
feature, you can collaborate with your audience by allowing them to the Explore feature. You will
submit questions and vote on them during your presentation. also practice using Presenter
View and the Audience Q&A
feature.

Instructions
1. In your My Slides folder, create a new presentation and rename it Lesson 5.4.

2. Insert six additional slides, applying the slide layouts as indicated in 5.4 Figure A. Use this figure as a
guide when formatting each slide.

3. Apply the Fade transition to all slides.

5. Add Speaker Notes. To add speaker notes that you can refer to while delivering your presentation
to an audience, speaker notes must be turned on prior to typing your text. To do so, from the View
menu, make sure that Show speaker notes appears with a checkmark next to it. The speaker notes
section will appear at the bottom of your slide with the words Click to add speaker notes.

6. Type the following text into the speaker notes:

7. Type the title and the bulleted list as shown. Change the font size of the bulleted list to 20.

9. Using your knowledge of hyperlinking text to a website, hyperlink the image to [www.harvard.edu].

10. Add the following speaker notes:

11. Type the title and the bulleted list as shown. Change the font size of the bulleted list to 20.

12. Delete the right column text box and insert an image of Stanford University, then position as shown.

13. Hyperlink the image to [www.stanford.edu].

14. Add the following speaker notes:

16. Delete the right column text box and insert an image of Yale University, then position as shown.

17. Hyperlink the image to [www.yale.edu].

20. Delete the right column text box and insert an image of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, then
position as shown.

25. Hyperlink the image to [www.princeton.edu].

26. Add the following speaker notes:

28. Use Presenter View. To use Presenter view so that your speaker notes are visible to you in a separate
window but remain hidden from your audience while you present, from the Present drop-down menu,
select Presenter view. Notice that the Presenter view window is launched containing your speaker
notes, while your presentation is visible in full screen mode.

29. Use the Audience Q&A Feature. To use the Q&A feature to address audience questions, in
Presenter view, click the AUDIENCE TOOLS tab, then click Start new.

30. The dialog box will change to show the presentation is Accepting questions, and a link will appear.
Make sure Accepting questions is set to ON, then click the link as shown below.

Note: A new tab will open.

31. In the Ask a question text box, type [What school would be best for marketing?] and click SUBMIT.

32. Close the Google Slides Q&A tab.

33. Return to Presenter view, and click PRESENT, then close the dialog box.

34. Go back to your presentation to view your question.

35. EXIT your presentation.

Note: The slide will revert back to Slide 7.

36. Proofread your presentation for accuracy and format and verify the links go to the correct websites.

37. Your presentation should look similar to 5.4 Figure A.

38. Use the Explore Feature. To use the Explore feature for layout recommendations based on the
content of your slides, do the following:

a. From the Tools menu, select Explore.

Note: Alternatively, select Explore in the bottom-right corner of your screen.

b. In the Explore panel, Layouts section, review the auto-created layouts and select the layout of
your choice. Repeat this step for all the slides in your slide show, then close the panel.
