Biomedical and BPS Model
Biomedical and BPS Model
The biomedical model in general is a human biological system, that can be used to
understand various functions from gene to phenotype and to provide the foundation
for therapeutic intervention in human diseases.
However, from the psychological aspect, the biomedical model states that mental
health issues and disorders are typically brain diseases. It emphasises the need
and importance of pharmacological treatment ( the use of drugs for health) when the
case is serious.
The BPS model is an acronym for BioPsychoSocial Model. This model is a surrogate
representation of wellness and medicine and about their interaction with the 3
important sectors in our life. It examines how biological, psychological and social
aspects play a vital role in health psychology and their relevance to diseases
mentally and biologically. These three aspects of health and well-being are
interconnected. This model is used to determine the significance of how one affects
the other. The social aspect has a side effect biologically in the case whereas
psychological interference can affect the case biologically.
