Chapter 1 - Introduction To Wireless Communications

Frequency reuse is a key concept in cellular network design that enhances the efficiency and capacity of wireless communication systems. It involves using the same frequency band in different, geographically separated cells to minimize interference. This approach is essential due to the limited availability of radio frequency spectrum amidst increasing demand for mobile communication services.

Frequency reuse
Frequency Reuse is a fundamental concept in cellular network
design, aimed at improving the efficiency and capacity of a
wireless communication system.
Reason: Radio frequency spectrum is a limited and valuable
resource. With the growing demand for mobile communication
services, efficient use of this spectrum is crucial.
Idea: same frequency band is used in different cells, which are
geographically separated by sufficient distance to prevent
interference.
The concept can be visualized as dividing a geographical area
into smaller regions or cells, each served by its own base
station =⇒ Which form of the cells could be most relevant for
designing cells?
