1. At an instant, the hemisphere (of radius R) moves towards left
with a velocity v and acceleration a. A particle P attached to
a string (whose other end is fixed to a vertical wall as show)
can slide on the hemisphere. Find the velocity and
acceleration of the particle P at the instant when OP line
makes 600 with the vertical.

2. In the arrangement shown in the figure A is an equilateral

wedge and the ball B is sliding down the incline XO. Find the
velocity of the wedge at the moment velocity of the ball is 10
m/s parallel to the incline XO.

3. In figure A, B, C are moving pulleys of mass 1kg each while D & E are fixed
pulleys. The Strings are light & inextensible. Choose the correct alternative (s):
(A) Tension in the string is 20/3 N
(B) Acceleration of pulley A is g/3 downward
(C) Acceleration of pulley B is g/6 upward
(D) Acceleration of pulley C is g/3 upward

4. A 20 kg block B is suspended from a cord attached to a

40 kg cart A in two different configurations as shown in
the figure. There is no friction anywhere. Choose the
correct option(s) just after the system is released from
rest.
(A) Acceleration of block B in case (i) is g/2√2
(B) Acceleration of block B in case (ii) is g/3
9
(C) Ratio of tension in the thread in case (i) to that in case (ii) is
8
(D) The normal reaction between the block B and cart A is zero in case (i).

5. The masses of blocks A and B are same and equal to ‘m’. Friction is absent
everywhere.
Choose the correct option(s) when the system is released from rest:
(A) the magnitude of acceleration of block A is 12g/25
(B) the magnitude of acceleration of block B is 9g/25
(C) the magnitude of acceleration of block B is 16g/25
(D) the normal force exerted by the wall on block B is 12mg/25

6. A hemisphere of radius ‘R’ is kept fixed on a horizontal surface. A nail is also

fixed at ‘O’ exactly above the centre of hemisphere at some height. A small
ball of mass ‘m’ is slowly pulled by an external force F on the surface of
hemisphere. String is massless and friction force between ball and
hemisphere is negligible. Then
(A) As ball moves up tension in the string decreases.
(B) As ball moves up tension in the string increases.
(C) As ball moves up normal between ball and sphere decrease.
(D) As ball moves up normal between ball and sphere increase.

7. A uniform rope is tied between a nail A on the wall and a nail B on the
ground. The rope without touching the ground anywhere assumes a
curved shape known as “catenary”. Tangents at the ends A and B of
this catenary make angles α and β with the vertical respectively. Which
of the following conclusions can NOT be made?
(A) Horizontal component of the tensile force in the rope is uniform.
(B) Vertical component of the tensile force increases with the height.
(C) Angle α can be greater the angle β
(D) Angle α cannot assume a value of 00

8. In the arrangement shown, 𝑚𝐴 = 1 𝑘𝑔, 𝑚𝐵 = 2 𝑘𝑔, while all the

pulley and strings are massless. At t = 0, a force F = 10t starts
acting on pulley P as shown. Choose the correct option(s)
(A) Block A loses contact with the floor at t = 2 sec
(B) Block B loses contact with the floor at t = 4 sec
(C) velocity of block A at the instant when B loses contact with
the floor is 10 m/s

9. A uniform chain of length L is released from rest on a smooth

horizontal table with a portion h of the chain overhanging as shown.
Find the time taken by the chain to slip off the table after it is released
from rest.

11. A block of mass m is kept on a smooth wedge of mass M. There is

no friction between the wedge and the ground. Find the horizontal
force F that must be applied on the wedge such that m remains at
rest wrt the wedge.

12. In case (I), blocks A of mass m and B of mass 2m are connected by an

ideal string which passes over a smooth pulley. In case (II), one end of
the string is connected to block A and the other end is pulled vertically
down with a constant force 2mg.
If the tension in the string in case (I) and case (II) is T1 and T2, then find
𝑇1

no friction between the wedge and the ground. Find the horizontal
force F that must be applied on the wedge such that m remains at
rest wrt the wedge.
