USING POLYA’S PROBLEM-SOLVING STRATEGY

Instruction: Choose ATLEAST TEN (10) problems from the given list. Solve each by
applying Polya’s problem-solving strategy. Submit your work in portable document format
file.

1. In order to win the grand prize, Harman Salon has to crack this secret code. Given the clues,
help Harman win by cracking this code:

10. There are 30 students in grade one, 50 students in grade two and 90 students in grade three
in a primary school, and so on forming a sequence. What’s the total number of students from
grade one to senior high?

11. A dark neon light blinks every 4 seconds. A light one blinks every 5 seconds while a white
one blinks every 6 seconds. How many times do they blink together in 2 hours?

12. Suppose the UAAP basketball championships is decided on a best of five series game. In
how many different ways can a team win in the championships?

13. Kathryn is a teacher and her cousins are an engineer, an architect, and a nurse. All of them
sit around a table. Kathryn sits on Daniel’s left. Belle sits at the engineer’s right. Donny, who
faces Daniel, is not the architect. Determine the seating arrangement of the cousins.
