choose, you may need a computer with appropriate software, or paper, ruler and pencils. Once you
have produced your poster you will need to convert it to pdf before uploading. (If you have used
software to create your poster, you can use a print to pdf function).
• This assignment will assess you on your understanding of what geography is all about, your ability to
collect appropriate information, and your ability to present information clearly and accessibly.
• Have a look at the marking criteria before you begin your assignment.
• You are not expected to complete this assignment without referring to your notes or coursebook.

GEOGRAPHY…AND YOU

Your task in this assignment is to create a poster on the topic ‘What is Geography?’ to represent the key
points you have learned in this module. You can use your textbook plus any additional research that you
would like to do.

You will be awarded up to 30 marks for the quality and detail of the information you include. Make sure
you write in your own words to achieve high marks.

You must include the following:

• A definition of the word geography.


• An explanation of the three main strands of geography: physical, human, environmental.
• An explanation of the three main themes running though geography: change, impact, inequality.

You should include the following:

• Examples to illustrate each strand.


• Examples to illustrate each theme.
• Examples of the types of questions geographers ask.

You could include the following:

• Examples of the resources geographers use to collect data.


• Examples of the skills geographers need to be successful.

You will be awarded up to 20 marks for your presentation and written communication. You should think
carefully about the following:

• Key vocabulary – what words do I need to include? Which ones need a definition?
• Layout – how can I use the space well? How can I keep the various sections clear (e.g. sub-
headings, spider diagrams, text bubbles)?
• Use of colour and pictures – how can I make my work attractive and eye-catching?
• Spelling, punctuation and grammar – have I used capital letters and other punctuation where
needed? Does every sentence make sense?
