Graduate or Senior Design Project Grant


Instructions
Student application papers are reports submitted by students, or their faculty mentors on their behalf,
based on senior design or capstone projects. Each paper/report highlights specific design choices in
the application of various standards and describes the resulting product, process, or service.

Please carefully read the criteria below. If you have any questions, please contact Travis Murdock,

Process for Submittal, Acceptance, Publication, and Grant Dispersal

1) Fill out the application form below and submit along with a statement of endorsement from faculty
mentor/advisor to: [email protected]

You may also mail the information to: Travis Murdock, ASTM International, 100 Barr Harbor Drive,
West Conshohocken, PA 19428 USA or fax to: 610-832-9599

2) The ASTM International project grant selection team will promptly review your submission and you
will be contacted within 5 days to confirm receipt

3) Upon approval, a $500.00 check will be sent in the name of the project leader to your faculty
advisor’s mailing address

4) By accepting the project grant, you are agreeing to submit an application paper/report for
publication by ASTM International according to the process and deadlines below. Your paper will
be posted on the ASTM International Students and Professors website at
http://www.astm.org/campus in the student application papers area.

The paper must be critiqued and meet the approval of your faculty mentor/advisor prior to final
submission to ASTM International. The final submission must include an evaluation or
assessment of the project by the faculty mentor.

NOTE: by submitting this application and the subsequent paper, the author(s) are granting
ASTM International the non-exclusive right to publish and disseminate the work

5) The final paper shall be submitted electronically in a Microsoft Word document to:
[email protected]

6) Deadline for project grants is October 31

7) Upon final acceptance by the ASTM International project grant selection team, the final student
application paper will be published and the student(s) shall receive an ASTM International project
grant award recipient certificate. (see evaluation criteria for application papers)

7) Either below or in an attachment, please write an abstract summary. In a minimum of 300


words, please describe your project, including, but not limited to:

a) Project title, scope and goal


b) Description or plan of how the project will proceed from beginning to end
c) Listing of ASTM International standards that are being considered in achieving your project
goal
d) Identify United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG) relevant to the project and
how the ASTM standards used aid in accomplishing the UN SDG(s) listed

8) The requirement for this ASTM International grant is submission of an application paper
upon completion of your project according requirements below.

The paper must be provided for critique to your faculty mentor/advisor first, and then submitted to
ASTM International after recommended changes have been made to your mentor’s satisfaction. Final
paper shall be a maximum of 10 pages or 5,000 words. Submission must include an evaluation or
assessment of the project by the faculty mentor.
