Bicarbonate

The Year 10 Chemistry project focuses on investigating the effect of concentration on the rate of reaction between acetic acid and sodium bicarbonate. Students are required to conduct an experiment, formulate a hypothesis, and present their findings in a detailed investigation report. A rubric is provided for assessment, outlining expectations for clarity, methodology, data presentation, and conclusions.

YEAR 10 CHEMISTRY

PROJECT ON RATE OF REACTION- 15 marks

OBJECTIVE: To explain the effect of concentration on rate of reaction by calculating the amount of time
required for the complete production of (Complete utilization of a reactant), by demonstrating, research
and scientific writing of experiment.

TOPIC: Effect of concentration on Rate of reaction.

RESEARCH AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION: How concentration will affect the number of reactants
used up (Sodium bicarbonate is completely reacted/product, CO2 completely formed – time taken until
no more bubbles formed)

EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION: To investigate the effect of concentration on Rate of reaction between

Acetic acid and Sodium bicarbonate.

HYPOTHESIS: Create a hypothesis on the effect of concentration of acetic acid (Vinegar) on rate of
reaction.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Students are supposed to perform online research on the factors that affect the rate of a chemical
reaction. Working individually, students were asked to select concentration and design and perform an
experiment to confirm its effect. Students should present their findings individually in the form of an
investigation report.

A RUBRIC is provided for the marking expectations along with instruction for the experimental and
research information.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Students can present in the form of PDF document/ PowerPoint presentation, duly completed
on time and uploaded on Edunation. Requesting students who will be submitting in PowerPoint
format should convert PowerPoint also in the pdf format and then upload on Edunation.
2. Clearly mention Student Name, Student Id, Class and Division, Teacher Name and Set number.

3. I should clearly mention the experimental setup (Aim, Hypothesis, Variables, Apparatus,
Methodology, Observation Table, Observation+ Inference, Graph, Conclusion and Discussion)

4. Please attach the pictures as evidence for observations table (provided along with) and Graph in
the document you prepare.

5. This project is research and experimental investigation report/ document writing.

6. Explanation for the experiment: As this would require a certain experimental setup, I request
you all to draw a diagram and then attach the following observation table. Use this observation
table to create a graph and interpret your inference and build up your discussions on the same.
Be clear in drawing the graph-on-graph paper or on the power point with proper naming of axis.
