This document is a lesson plan for Mathematics 10 focusing on graphing polynomial functions. It includes examples of polynomial equations, their corresponding values, and instructions for an activity where students will supply tables of values and graph given polynomial functions. The lesson aims to help students identify turning points in polynomial graphs.

Graphing of Polynomial Functions

Example
1. y = 2x3 – 7x2 – 7x + 12
x -2 -3/2 -1 0 1 2 3 4
y -18 0 10 12 0 -14 -18 0 Turning points

2. y = x4 – 7x2 + 6x
x -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3
y -4 -24 -12 0 0 0 36

Turning
Points

The turning points of a graph occur when the function changes from decreasing to increasing or
from increasing to decreasing values.

ACTIVITY:
Supply the table of values and graph the Polynomial Functions.
1. y = (x)(x + 6)(x + 1) (x – 1)

x -5 -3 0 2 4
y

2. y = (x + 1)(x – 3) (x – 2)

x -6 -4 0 3 5
y
