General Regulations of the Course :

1. The Vidyavaridhi/PhD Course is applicable to those scholars who completed the


Acharya/M.A/P.G with M.Phil. Course and admitted into Vidyavaridhi (Ph.D.) course
in Vidyapeetha from 2020 onwards.

2. The duration of the course is for 18 weeks/ one semester/six months. The Vidyapeetha
may conduct the course twice in a year i.e. one from July to December, and the other
one from January to June subject to orders.

3. A scholar is required to attend only one course and obtain a Vidyavaridhi/Ph.D. Course
Grade Card/Completion Certificate from the Controller of Examinations. The second
session i.e. from January to June, is ordinarily meant for part time research scholars.
However, the regular research scholars can also utilize this session provided he/she has
not attended nor qualified in the earlier one.

4. The Vidyavaridhi/Ph.D. Course is compulsory for all students with PG Degree.

5. The M.Phil degree holders M.Phil first Semester Examination is treated as


Vidyavaridhi Course work as per the clause 7.6 of University Grants Commission
(Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degrees) Regulations,
2016 and such M.Phil degree holders will be exempted from course work. There is also
a provision to give Vidyavaridhi/Ph.D. Course Work Certificate (without grade), as per
practice in the Vidyapeetha on considering the papers qualified in the M.Phil degree,
for which a separate application is prescribed.

6. If M.Phil degree holders need Course Work Certificate with grade, they must have 10
percent of attendance in each paper of Ph.D. course, attend computer practical,
Survey/Review of the published research in the relevant field, seminar and assignment
requirements as per the instructions of the HoD and course teachers and can apply for
Vidyavaridhi/Ph.D. Course Examination to be notified by the CE and appear in
Vidyavaridhi/Ph.D. Course work examination.

General Guidelines on Syllabus, Credit Requirements, Evaluation etc.

7. As per the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D.
Degrees) Regulations, 2016 clause no.7, the syllabus for Vidyavaridhi/Ph.D. Course
work for one Semester with credit hour etc requirement is framed as hereunder in
consultation with BoS/Experts.

8. The medium of instruction for Vidyavaridhi/Ph.D. Course will be Sanskrit.

9. There will be Three papers in the course of study, each carrying 100 marks/ each
paper will have 4 periods per week.

10. Each paper is for 4 credits and must have 72 hours of curriculum transaction in class
room etc. Over all, the course will have 12 credits and over all there will be 216 hours
of study/research preparation.

a) The First Paper, Part-A is on Research Methodology for 60 marks, (45 marks for
Semester end final written examination and 15 marks for internal assessment);
Part-B is Survey/Review of the Published Research Papers and Theses in the
Relevant Field for 40 marks (30 marks for Semester end final written
examination and 10 marks for internal assessment).

b) The second paper part (a) is on Sanskrit Language Skill and Training for
Preparation of Thesis for 60 marks (45 marks for Semester end final written
examination, 15 internal assessment) and part (b) is on Computer Applications for
40 marks (30 marks for Semester end final written examination, 10 internal
assessment).

c) The third paper part (a) is on Research Ethics for 50 marks (35 marks for
Semester end final written examination, 15 internal assessment) and part (b) is on
Manuscriptology and Textual Criticism for 50 marks (40 marks for Semester end
final written examination, 10 internal assessment).

11. The notification inviting application for Vidyavaridhi/Ph.D. Course Examination shall
be done by the Controller of Examinations. All confidential process on the examination
like evaluation will be conducted by the Controller of Examinations.

12. Each paper will have two evaluation parts i.e. written Semester end examination and
Internal Assessment. Written Semester end examination will be conducted by
Controller of Examination and on calling applications, the candidate has to apply in the
prescribed application form. With regard to Internal assessment, the HoD (Research
and Publications) will ensure a continuous evaluation process to be adopted by each of
the Dept teacher and obtain evaluation reports from them and individual teacher will
conduct the Assignment Tests and practical tests as per BoS recommendations. The
marks obtained in internal examination shall be submitted to the CE by the concerned
teacher before the term end examination is started. The teacher of a particular paper is
required to maintain the records of the internal assessment for one year.

Passing Standard:

13. A candidate is declared to have passed the Vidyavaridhi(Ph.D.) Course Work


Examination and also he himself/herself becomes eligible for pursuing his/her research
further, if he secures a minimum of 50% marks in each paper in semester end
examination and 55% in aggregate; a minimum of B-Grade i.e. 55% in aggregate. If a
candidate is unable to secure the minimum mark in each paper and aggregate or grade
can attend the next session for improving his/her marks/grades.

14. The research scholar will be awarded a certificate in the UGC prescribed 7-Point Scale
by the Controller of Examinations with grades as applicable.

15. The following is the stipulated UGC 7 Point Scale which shall be referred to ascertain
equivalent marks in percentage.

Minimum Passing - 6.6 55 % = 165
Note – For a pass in the Vidyavaridhi Course Work Examination a candidate must secure a
minimum of 50 % marks in each semester end paper in the Vidyavaridhi Course Work
examination and overall an average of 55% of marks in aggregate.
Minimum Credits/Marks required – Total Credits required for passing Vidyavaridhi Course
Work Examination = 6.6 Credits ; Total Marks required = 165
Award of Grade – As per UGC 7 Point Scale as above, Sl.no.15

16. There will not be any provision for revaluation. The examination section shall convert
the percentage of marks in to grade and award a passing certificate to the candidate
with marks/grade and titles of the papers.
17. It is generally compulsory that all research scholars should have 75% of attendance in
the course. However, the percentage of attendance can be condoned up to 60%
provided the candidate submits some genuine reasons acceptable to the authorities/
HoDs/Deans/VC.

18. Any issue emerging out of the implementation of credit hour requirement etc shall be
dealt as per the special orders of the Vice-Chancellor.

STANDARD OF PASSING AND AWARDING GRADE

A minimum of 50% of marks are required in each semester paper and 55 % of aggregate in all to
qualify in Vidyavaridhi (Ph.D) Course work accordance with the UGC Regulation - 2016. There
will not be any minimum marks for Internal Assessment. The passing and the grading shall be in
accordance with the UGC 7 Point Scale as noted below.
