information
Contents title – conventionally at the top of the page the page and the largest text
on the page. Indicates the purpose of the page to the audience. The Design features
of the contents title is that the colour scheme is very basic and doesn’t show a flair to
the header. The magazine uses colour and the different style of text to hook the
reader into reader more of the magazine than just the front cover and the content
page.

- The Contents page of MOJO magazine is conventionally the biggest font on

the page and the one that would drag the most audience because it is in the
boldest font and the largest font so it can’t really be missed and it is in the
colour black so then it will be able to stand out from the background which is
in the colour white.

Image of front cover – repeated on the contents page, but not too big because you
have already seen the page and it isn’t that much of a focus on. As well the photo is a
screen shot and it usually is placed in one of the top corners so top right or left so
then it is out of the way.

- The Image of the front cover for the

specific MOJO magazine that I am
doing does not have a photo of the
front cover on the content page but
this Q magazine which is a Music
magazine as well has got a photo of
the front cover on the content page.
This conventionally shows to the
reader that the front cover of the
magazine is the most important and
the one that is the most appealing to the reader and that is because the
reader will then focus on the photo that is the main image and the front cover.
This front cover can show to the reader that the photo is in the top right-hand
corner and that it is out of the way and that once you look at it and focus on it
once then you won’t need to focus and look at it again and finally the last
thing is the colour scheme of the content page to the front cover is very
similar because they both have got red at the top margin and then the colour
of the print is red same as the name of the magazine.
Issue Information – smallest text than the contents title but usually positioned near
it – issue number, month, year etc. The issue information as well as got the logo of
the magazine next to the page number and that follows on from every page and that
means that the repetition of this is very good for the audience because it is the same
so it won’t then confuse the reader.

- The Issue information of MOJO magazine is that is telling you the date that
the magazine has been published and as well the issue number of how many
magazines before the one that is getting released today and that
conventionally it will be placed under the main header of the content page
and will be the second smallest font on the page due to it not really being one
of the things that is important. The colour of the issue information is going to
be red so then it will be reflecting of the background and can stand out more
(even though I already said that it isn’t really important). Then as well the
repetition of the date that it was released as well due to it following on nearly
every single slide in the magazine.

Multiple images – to illustrate articles on the page usually positioned together. Will
be visually interesting, with relevant mise en scene that signifies the genre. And the
shots of the images that are on the content page are usually ones that are going to
appear in the magazine that you are reading and then the reader will be told and
may want to go to that page before all the others because it looks more appealing to
that person than another image.

- The multiple images of MOJO magazine are good because conventionally you
will be able to illustrate the article that are appealing on the content page and
then if you want to go straight to that page you will be able to due to it telling
you what page number and which images that it is referring to. This is a good
thing because then if something in the magazine you find more appealing
than others you will be able to skip the page and go on to the ones that you
find interesting. Another good thing with having multiple images on the
content page is that you can see what the information Is and some of the
artist that the magazine has got inside. The colour of the images as well are all
different colours so then they will not clash with each other.

Page number and captions on images – To link them to an article and as well they
are showing us information and the page number that the article is from so then if
you want to go straight to that page then you will not have to go through all of the
pages just to find the article you will be given it.

- The page numbers and captions on images is conventionally placed on or

under a photo/ image that will be inside the magazine. This is there to tell the
reader that it is an important page and that you don’t need to flick to find the
page due to you already being given the page number and some information
about what that page is going to tell you about the article in the magazine
and then they as well can help by giving the visual elements to the reader and
the MOJO magazine has got very different images and then as well they have
got some colours on them as well which repel of the background of the
magazine.

Column layout – used to create structure and order to allow the audience to use
and navigate around the page easily. Conventionally three columns to a page and so
then it isn’t too cramped and you can see all of the title and information on them
title easily.

- The column layout of MOJO magazine is conventionally one column which is

on the content page and tells you information about the page numbers and
where to find some information about that specific page. As well the size of
the column layout is not that big because if the font size is larger than there
won’t be enough space o have some images and maybe even the title. There
is only one column per content page for the MOJO magazine where as some
other magazine companies will have more columns about information.
Though MOJO only tells them Three topics which are (Features, Cover story,
Regulars, what goes on and MOJO filter) They are all of the topics and main
heading on the column layout.

Repetition of masthead – sometimes at the top of the page the near the ‘contents’
page and this is to be able to reinforce the brand and the top right-hand corner to
and as well takes up most of the top section.

- The repetition of the masthead is conventionally positioned on the contents

page to be able to reinforce the brand. On the MOJO magazine the masthead
Is next to the column layout and the section heading and is on the top right-
hand side of the page. Which is similar to the Image of the Front cover which
as well was on the top left or right side of the content page. The Masthead
takes up a small chunk of the top section and is in the same Font size though
it is in a different colour and that means that it will be able to repel the
background and then standout to the reader of the magazine.
Page number and additional information – At the bottom of my page – small in
the outer corners – page number and then sometimes the mastheads issue
information This is a really good thing to have so then it will be a really good and
easy way to guide around the article.

- The page numbers and additional information is conventionally placed at the

bottom left or the bottom right hand of the page. The contents pages have
got the page number and title at the bottom right on page 3 and then the
bottom left on page 4. Which can show to the reader that they will change
side maybe each slide to show difference. Then as well there is the masthead
next to the page number which again can show to the reader that they are
trying to reinforce the brand and make you see it as much as possible.

Layout of articles – page number first followed by article name/title which is usually
in a bigger/bolder/different colour font to main body text underneath there is main
body text – simple and plain font – small – gives more information about the article.

- The layout of the articles is conventionally positioned on the right-hand side

of the page and they are all in the same font and that is good because then it
doesn’t get in the way of the images on the content page. There are three
different colours that have been used on the layout of the article and this can
signify how simple and basic they have made this with the three colours being
in the colours red, black and grey. They have outlined the page numbers since
they are the ones that are in red and then as well, they have got the title of
the page and the description in a bigger font and in bold and in black whereas
the information is in grey and is smaller than the title of the page and the
smaller the font the more information it will give to the reader of the
magazine.

Section heading – Text used to separate the article into sections – helps to create
order for the audience. Will often be linked to the regular and feature content.
Smaller text than the contents but bigger than the main body image.

- The section heading is conventionally placed on the right-hand page for this
MOJO and all the other MOJO magazines as well they are positioned on the
right-hand side which is showing a similarity and that will mean that it will not
be different for whatever the magazine if it’s published by MOJO then it will
be on the right-hand side. The heading will be in a bigger font size and font.
The smaller font which is the information underneath the Heading. This as well
will help to create an order for the reader to follow instead of randomly
reading they are able to read the magazine in sections.
