Interleaved & Switched Capacitor & DCM Conveter

The document discusses various types of converters, including interleaved, buck, boost, and switched-capacitor converters, highlighting their operational principles and advantages. Interleaved converters reduce filter component size and output ripple voltage, while switched-capacitor converters operate without inductors, making them suitable for low-current applications. The document provides equations and descriptions for calculating output voltages and currents in these converter types.

Interleaved Converter
Also called multiphase, is a technique that is useful for reducing the size of filter components, which has a
smaller peak-to-peak variation and a frequency twice as large as individual inductor currents. This results in
a smaller peak-to-peak variation in capacitor current than would be achieved with a single buck converter,
requiring less capacitance for the same output ripple voltage.

More than two converters can be interleaved. The phase shift between switch closing is 360o/n, where n is
the number of converters in the parallel configuration.

SWITCHED-CAPACITOR CONVERTERS
capacitors are charged in one circuit configuration and then reconnected in a different configuration,
producing an output voltage different from the input.
Switched-capacitor converters do not require an inductor and are also known as inductorless converters or
charge pumps.
Switched-capacitor converters are useful for applications that require small currents, usually less
than 100 mA.
The basic types of switched-capacitor converters are the step-up (boost), the inverting, and the step-down
(buck) circuits.
