PowerPoint Project

*This project will count towards both the lab PowerPoint assignment and the lecture Learning Theories assignment*

Assignment Goal: Create a PowerPoint presentation to teach others about the three learning theories discussed in this
class Constructivism, Behaviorism, and Cognitivism

Assignment Requirements
The PowerPoint you create for this assignment must contain the following:

• 7 slides

• Use a Design Template

• A Title slide

• Use a Title and Table slide to contrast the theories views of:
• How people learn
• The use of technology in learning

• The use of at least 2 pictures from any of the following sources:


• PowerPoint Clip Art
• http://edmedia.ifas.ufl.edu/ufimages/
• http://www.pics4learning.com/

• Hyperlinks to 3 web resources


• One for each of the theories discussed
• Cannot be a website used in this class

• Insert a custom animation

• Use slide transitions – a minimum of 2

What you will need before you start:


• Your USB drive

Getting Started

1. Insert your USB. The USB icon will appear on your desktop.

Access the PowerPoint Program:

1. Double click on the Macintosh HD icon.

2. In the window that appears, click one time on Applications.

3. Locate Microsoft Office X and click on it.

4. Double click on the PowerPoint icon.

5. Click OK to open a blank presentation.

6. From the New Slide window, just click OK.

7. Once PowerPoint opens, click on the Normal View button.

8. Click on View. Make sure that “Formatting Palette” is checked. If not click on top of “Formatting Palette”. You
will see a checkmark on its left when you come back to this menu.

9. Click on View – Toolbars. Make sure that both Standard and Formatting are checked.
Save this blank presentation onto your USB

1. File – Save as.

2. Name the file: powerpoint.ppt

3. Click on the “Where” drop down menu and click on your USB.

4. Click on the Practice folder.

5. Make sure the Format listed is “Microsoft PowerPoint document.”

6. Click on Save.

Inserting Slides

The practice PowerPoint presentation you are about to create will include 7 slides of information. The topic of the
presentation will be Learning Theories.

1. Click on Insert – New Slide – OK (Repeat this step until you have a total of 7 slides.)

2. Scroll back to the beginning of your presentation so that you can add content to the first slide.

Using Different Layouts

1. In the Formatting Palette, open the Presentation drop down menu.

2. The first slide is a Title slide, from the Layout drop down menu, select “Title Slide.” The layout design will
appear on slide 1.

3. Use at least 2 other Layout designs in your project.

Applying Design Templates

1. Click on Format __ Slide Design.

2. From the Designs folder, select a Design.

3. Then click on Apply.

Inserting Tables

1. Use the Title and Table Layout

2. Double click on the space entitled “Double click to add table.”

3. Create a table that has 3 columns and 3 rows. Click on OK.

4. Head each column with the name of a learning theory addressed in this class

5. In row 2 insert he beliefs of each theory regarding how people learn

6. In row 3 insert the beliefs of each theory regarding how technology can be used to help people learn.
Adding Text and Pictures to a Layout

To add text to your presentation, simply click in the boxes labeled “Click to add text” or “Click to add title.” Add in the text
for each slide exactly how it appears in the pictures below. If you have selected a layout that includes pictures, simply
double click in the boxes labeled with “Double click to add picture”.

Remember to Save Your Work!! A quick way to do this is to use a keyboard shortcut by pressing Apple-S.

Inserting Pictures

1. Double click on top of the picture slot.

2. In the window that appears, locate your USB by dragging the scroll bar all the way to the left.

3. From your USB, click one time on PIC1.GIF and then click Insert. The picture will appear in your presentation.

Save your work: Press Apple-S

Inserting Hyperlinks

1. For each learning theory provide an external link to a website (not discussed in this class) that provides
additional information on the theory.

2. To create a hyperlink in a PowerPoint

3. Type in the name of the site

4. Highlight or select the name of the site

5. Click on Insert – Hyperlink

6. Type in the web address of the website

7. Click OK. The name of the website should now be formatted as a hyperlink.
8. To test the hyperlink, click on the slide show icon

9. Click on the hyperlink. The web page will appear in a separate window.

10. To return to the slide show, click one time on the window that contains your presentation.

11. To end the show, press the escape key.

Save your work: Press Apple-S

Adding Slide Transitions

1. Click on Slide Show – Slide Transition.

2. From the Transition drop down menu select an option.

3. Make sure that only “On Mouse Click” is checked.

Save your work: Press Apple-S

Using Custom Animation

1. Select the slide you want to insert the custom animation on and click on Slide Show> Animations> Custom.

2. Under “Select to animate,” click one time on an item on the slide to be animated, this will highlight the text.

3. Make a selection for “Entry Effect” and for “Sound Effect”.

4. Preview the animation by pressing Play.

5. Click OK.

Save your work: Press Apple-S
