Assignment #01

Due Date: Feb 6th, 2025 Total Marks = 10

The assignment must be submitted by due date during lecture timings in class. Submissions after class timings will lead to
zero marks. Do not copy or you will get negative marking for your assignment.

Note: The following assignment will be evaluated against CLO-1 and PLO-2.

1. Using Shockley’s equation, find the diode current at 127oC for a Silicon diode with IS = 1 pA and
applied forward bias of 0.8V. [2]

2. The reverse saturation current IS doubles for every 10 degree Celsius rise in temperature. If
Is = 0.5 uA at T = 25oC, find the value or Is from 35oC to 55oC for each 10 degree Celsius rise in
temperature. [2]

3. For the following characteristic curve, determine the static resistance for commercial diode at [2]
(a) 3mA
(b) 10mA
(c) At reverse voltage of -20V
4. Consider the V-I characteristic curve of a forward biased Silicon diode shown in the following
figure, find the dynamic resistance and static resistance at ID = 10 mA for the Silicon diode. [1]

5. For the Si diode in Question-4, find the dynamic resistance using the relation
26𝑚𝑉
𝑟𝑑 =
𝐼𝐷

and state the reason for difference in result from previous case. [1]

6. An 8.2V Zener diode 8.2V at 25oC) has a positive temperature coefficient of 0.05%/oC. What is
the zener voltage at 60oC? [1]

7. Determine the temperature at which zener voltage of a 12V zener diode (12V at 25oC) becomes
12.225V. The temperature coefficient is 0.075%/oC. [1]
