To,

Mr. Bhatnagar

Subject: Regarding Gap funding for existing Waste Management Initiatives of the District Administration,
Tehri for Dhanaulti to kanatal location.
Sir,
It is with Immense pleasure we take to write this letter to introduce you about Inclusive Development for
Environment and Learning (IDEAL) Foundation. IDEAL foundation is a Section 8, Not for Profit Company,
created by collaboration with a bunch of subject matter experts who independently have been involved in
solving issues related to environment and Climate change. We started During Covid -19 Pandemic and
helped people in need initially by supporting them with food and medicines, while during the second phase
we locked ourselves in a house and manufactured Oxygen Concentrators, arranged the zeolite from
someone in France and got it NABL approved to be utilized for temporary use and donated it. Planted trees
as a general way to contribute against deforestation. Later on, as things started to come back on track, we
started engagements with the society to create general as well as scientific awareness by creating a Show
called “Climate Talks” around Climate Change and how can they contribute and thus with similar
Intentions, as some of us have been in the Recycling space for quite some time. We, along with the District
Administration, Tehri, initiated a waste management project for a secluded region i.e. Dhanaulti to Kanatal,
where waste menace had taken to create a mess but unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances we
had to put the project on hold.
We are writing this letter to seek your support in taking the project forward. By utilizing your Support for
6 Months we can bring the project alive as well as to self-sustain as we promised. We would really
appreciate all the possible help and support and we promise to establish this as a benchmark in the region.

For your Kind perusal.

11. Project overview:

IDEAL Foundation proposes to take forward the targeted 6-month waste management initiative
of the District Administration for the regions of Dhanaulti to Kanatal. This project aims to
establish effective waste Collection, segregation, and community engagement practices to
address the growing waste challenges in these popular tourism destinations. The initiative was
taken up by the District Administration in the month of June but due to lack of financial support
the project is unable to sustain but this purely aligns with SDG goals for Goal 3,6,11,13,and 15,
promoting environmental sustainability and community wellbeing and thus we plan to establish
an impact over five lakh tourists, hoteliers, shopkeepers and local communities and provide a
hand full of people the training and technical guidance required to run this project on a self-
sustainable mode after the completion.

12. Project purpose:

The project location is a Popular tourism destination and is mostly flocked with tourists across
the year especially during summers and winters due to its picturesque location and cold
weather but since it does not fall in any primary routes and is remote, its secluded from the
mainstream. Every year almost 3-5 Lakh Tourists visit these locations and generate
approximately 700-1000 Kilo of waste per day which due to no collection was getting dumped in
the reserve forest area which posses’ threat to not only the wildlife but also chronic health
hazards to the local communities and tourists, also being a tourism destination, aesthetically it
does not really look good and impact the overall image of our state and questions its
governance. Thus, along with the district administration we managed to carry out a daily door to
door collection of waste and promisingly we achieved 100% source Segregation within just a
matter of 5 days using our direct Interactive Awareness approach.
13. Project duration: 5+1 Month
14. Problem & Issues that project wants to tackle: Waste and Livelihoods (first month
Report Attached as attached)
15. Target group: Hospitality Industry and Local Community
16. Description of the problem/ issues:
The location is Secluded, lack of waste disposal and awareness creates a regular challenge to
the administration as well as the entire value chain to handle waste and at the end the only
solution seems feasible to them is either dumping here and there or just burn it in open air,
either of which are not recommended. In fact, it creates long term problems related to man
wildlife conflicts, forest fires, health hazards as well as defamation of the name and value of the
region.
17. Intervention strategy
17.1 Implement Waste collection, Segregation and Recycling: Establish a waste
management system in Dhanaulti to Kanatal with a focus on segregation and recycling.
17.2 Enhance Community Awareness and Engagement: Educate residents, tourists, and
local businesses on sustainable waste practices.
17.3 Mitigate Environmental Impact: Reduce pollution and promote cleanliness in these
ecologically sensitive regions.

18. Participation of the stakeholders

Engagement: Stakeholders are Engaged through regular Get togethers, meetings as well as
connected through a WhatsApp group.

Accountability: Stakeholders are held accountable for the project's actions by posing threat for
penalization as well as regular monitoring.

Transparency: We have been effectively able to communicate every development of this

project through Regular Reports as well as personal communication.

priorities of stakeholders.
