a. There are three perspectives used to explain the reasons for the studying DA, what

perspectives are they? Please briefly describe your answer.

= The three main perspectives in studying Discourse Analysis (DA) are the linguistic, social and
cognitive perspectives. The linguistic perspective sees DA as a way to understand the structure
of language in texts and conversations. The social perspective emphasizes how language is
used in social contexts to shape identities, power relations, and social interactions. The
cognitive perspective focuses on how individuals process and understand meaning in
communication.

b. Who should learn DA and why? Please explain your answer in detail.

= DA should be studied by students of language, linguistics, communication, and education, as


well as professionals working in translation, journalism, and media analysis. This is because DA
helps understand how language is used effectively in various contexts, improves
communication skills, and helps in the analysis of complex texts and discourses.

c. c. What should the students do in learning DA? Please explain your answer in detail.

= In studying DA, students must understand basic theories of discourse, develop critical text
analysis skills, and practice analyzing various types of texts, both oral and written. They also
need to understand the social and cultural contexts that influence language use, as well as
apply DA concepts in research and everyday communication practices.

d. What are the advantages of learning DA? What would the students achieve?

= The advantages of studying DA include increasing understanding of how language is used in


various situations, developing text analysis skills, and improving communication and critical
thinking skills. Students who study DA will be able to identify implied meanings in texts,
understand effective communication strategies, and analyze the influence of language in social
and media interactions.
e. According to DA view, what should be learnt and should be taught in a Foreign

Language? Please explain your answer in detail.

= In DA's view, foreign language learning should include linguistic, social and pragmatic aspects.
Students should learn not only grammar and vocabulary, but also how language is used in
various social contexts, how meaning is constructed in interaction, and how cultural factors
affect communication. Thus, foreign language learning will be more effective and
communicative.

f. In more specific case, what are the advantages of learning DA according pragmatic

perspective?

= From a pragmatics perspective, studying DA helps to understand how meaning is shaped in


everyday communication, including implicature, hidden intentions, and communication
strategies. This is important for improving pragmatic competence, which is the ability to use
language in accordance with the social and cultural norms prevailing in a society.

g. How to use DA in pedagogical context?

increase students' awareness of language use in various situations, and help them develop
analytical thinking skills. Teachers can use DA to analyze authentic texts, teach communication
