COURSE CODE: NRMP 805: Applications of GIS and Remote Sensing Credits: 3
WhatsApp: 0577500992
Objective:
The course will present and assess the fundamental concepts of GIS and remote sensing technologies
and their applications in environmental studies.
Content:
Topics include the physical basis for remote sensing, remote sensing systems, digital image processing,
data structures, database design, and spatial data analysis. Examples of applications of GIS and
remote sensing technologies to various environmental applications with a particular focus on
sustainable practices will be used throughout the course. Emphasis is placed on image acquisition, and
data collection in the electromagnetic spectrum and data set manipulations. Students will gain
experience in the use of ESRI ARC GIS 10.5 and any upgrade software. The course will involve exercises
on case studies.
As the title implies, the course is divided into two (2) namely; Remote sensing and Geographic
Information Systems.
Mode of delivery:
This course will be taught by using 2-hour lecture session and 2- to 3-hour tutorial and practical
session, where necessary it would be delivered online (Virtual Learning). The first session will cover
remote sensing and the second GIS.
Section A
At the end of the section, student should know the concept of remote sensing, electromagnetic
spectrum
