Digital Library system for Adigrat University

Background of the system

Currently the library of the Adigrat University was working in manually. That indicates when
new book are buy the University librarian would register in some documents manually. After
that they would put in some specific shelf, but it may change by workers of the library and
students. In addition that getting every necessary material for every course and field is very
difficult by the case of availability of books and by expensiveness of books.

Problems to be solved

Currently every activities of library were manually. That is the books are register in some
document manually and searching the books in the shelf is also manually. These things are
challenging to satisfy the customer of the university students. In addition those students and
other users of the university who have electronic material haven’t any option to uses the basic
material of the course that doesn’t available easily on the internet and even they can get other
materials but it would be difficult to identify the main source of the course.

In addition that managing the library resources is very difficult, since accessing the resource
would be time taken. In giving service of the customers such as clearance is difficult for the uses
and for managing the resources carefully.

Objective

General objective

The general objective of this project is to design and implement digital library system for Adigrat
university library management system.

Specific objectives

In order to achieve the above general objective these specific objectives must be fulfill

 To study the current working principle of the library


 To design the digital library system depend on the current follow
 To design the searching catalog for customers of the library

 To design the Know availability of books
 Request for new books
 View their records
 Create every customers page

Methodology
In order to design the digital library system the different methodology will be used. The
following subsections the main methodology that will be used.
1. Review related works
In order to design the digital library system that includes the main components of library
reviewing related works will very important. In-depth exploration of the recent developments
library system will be review throughout the experimental works from different sources such as
books and implemented sites.
2. Software used
We will use the following software’s in order to design the digital library system
a. We will uses the java programming language to design the system
b. To design the storage of the system will we uses the SQL data base

Method of Impact assessment

At the end of the experimental work the system would be evaluated in order to compare with the
existing system. The assessment method will by using a questioner form the librarian and
customers of the library depend on the user satisfaction of the system and the efficiency of the
system.
