Course Description

This course is a broad introduction to the field of psychology. You will explore the key figures, diverse
theoretical perspectives, and research findings that have shaped some of the major areas of
contemporary psychology. This course also examines the research methods used by psychologists across
these areas to study the origins and variations in human behavior. We will have lectures, Socratic
seminar, watch films, and critique each other. Know that you are responsible for keeping up with
lectures, presentations, and readings.

Attendance

You are expected to attend all classes. If you are absent for any reason, emailed OFFICIAL
documentation will be required to excuse your absence. (For example; if you are sick, the health center
should send an email stating you are excused otherwise your absence will be considered unexcused.
Your attendance in this class affects your grade. It will also determine if you may possibly be withdrawn
from the course if too many sessions are missed. A huge portion of the examination questions are based
on classroom discussions, literature, and presentations. Any films covered will mostly NOT available for
viewing outside of class. If you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to gather information
from your classmates. (I may or may not be available to update you in a timely manner.) Lecture
notes will not be provided by me outside of class time; however, presentations may be posted at the
end of the topic. It is strongly recommended that you obtain the phone number and/or e-mail
addresses of at least two people in the class who can provide you with the information you miss.

TEAMS and Jenzabar Forums

Assignments, announcements, handouts, and PowerPoints will be posted on TEAMS. MOST

assignments are submitted via Jenzabar, however, for some assignments, you will be required to
respond in groups or channels on TEAMS. In-class assignments, discussion and some projects will be
graded by participation and thus there will not be a document to submit.

Be sure to set you notifications such that you will receive all updates and messages.

How to Reach Me

My office hours are MWF 10am to 12pm; TTH 9:30am to 12pm. My office extension is 3933. You may
visit me there by appointment or prior conversation. You must allow 48 hours response time with
communication though, Monday through Thursday, I normally work to respond within 24 hours.
Weekends is when you are more than likely to receive a 48-hour response time. Understand that 48
hours is the standard. You may also reach me via private chat on TEAMS or by email during the above-
mentioned office hours with the same response times. I am attentive to my messages. Emailing, calling
and/or messaging me multiple times will not accelerate my response.

Assignment Deadlines

All assignments are considered on time if submitted on the required forum by class time on the due
date. ONLY ASSIGNMENTS DESIGNATED TO BE EMAILED WILL BE ACCEPTED BY EMAIL. If you are
required to submit your assignment to Jenzabar, emailing it WILL NOT deem it to be submitted.
Assignments after the due date are unacceptable. You will only be allowed to submit late assignment
for FULL CREDIT if you have an EXCUSED absence that specifies you as unable to complete your
assignments. If I consider accepting them, it will be on a case by case basis and only 50% credit will be
given.

Exam and Quiz Reviews

Exam and quiz reviews will be done in class. Be sure you are present to ask questions and take notes.
No additional handouts will be given.

Midterm Exam

No make-up is given for missing this exam (at all). If you are miss exam the point value of the midterm
(10%) is added to the weight of your final exam, making the final exam worth 45% of your final grade.

Final Exam

Be sure you are present and available for the final as it is a great deal of your grade. If you are not
present for the final exam your grade will be zero unless a make-up has been approved by Academic
Services. Make-up final examinations are only approved for students in good academic standing who
