How to use Cortex Prime in Foundry

v0.2.0
[Work in Progress]

General Use
In this first section we will go over the basics on how to use Cortex Prime in Foundry. This will
be information useful for all users.

Using an Actor Sheet

Many of the sections in the actor sheet will be dependent on the settings for each actor type.

Selecting Actor Type

After opening a newly created actor, you will be asked to select an actor type. These are actor
types created in the game settings.

Permissions

Owner
Full edit and read capability for the actor sheet. GMs always have this permission on all actors.

Observer
Read an actor sheet but not edit, and can add traits to their dice pool. May select this actor as
their character when joining the game.

Limited
Read an actor sheet but not edit, and can add traits to their dice pool. May not select this actor
as their character when joining the game.

None
Cannot see this actor in the actor list.

Dice

Adding Dice
Dice can be added to a trait by clicking on the ‘+’ symbol.
Changing Die Ratings
Click on a die to choose a new die rating of that die from the drop down.

Removing Dice
To remove a die from a trait simply right click on the die icon to remove it. Prior to version 0.0.7
you would select the ‘x’ option when changing die ratings.

Adding to Dice Pool

You can add dice to your dice pool by clicking on a trait with dice assigned, these will be
denoted by a dice icon to the left of the trait name.

Update Settings Button

This option is only available to users with owner permissions. This button will update the actor
sheet to have any changes the GM may have made to the actor settings.

What can be updated from setting changes

All “checkbox” options, e.g. whether or not there are plot points, if traits/sub-traits have dice or
sfx, etc., will be updated. Additionally the names of “Simple Traits”, Trait Sets, and Preset Traits
and the order of their appearance can be updated.

What cannot be updated from setting changes

The reason for not allowing certain items from being updated is because the player can edit
them, and updating them would lose player made edits.

Default values including text, descriptions, and dice cannot be updated. Individual Repeatable
items applied to traits, such as SFX, sub-traits, etc., also cannot be updated.

Plot Points
This section will only appear if it is enabled by the GM in the actor secttings.

You can click on the PP icon to spend a plot point. Below the PP icon you can see how many
plot points you have and can add another by clicking the plus button.

Simple Traits
Any simple traits that the GM has enabled in the actor settings will appear at the bottom of the
leftmost column of the sheet.

Simple Traits can either have a text value, number value(s), or dice value(s). Each of which can
be edited by clicking on the edit icon.
Trait Set Edit

Shutdown/Disabled Toggle
The toggle “switch” icon is intended for disabling and/or “shutting down” a trait set or trait. When
shutdown it prevents any of the traits from being added in the dice pool and appears faded.

Preset Traits vs Custom Traits

Preset traits are set in the actor settings by the GM. They can only be renamed or removed from
the actor settings. This section will not appear if there are none set up in the actor settings for
the trait set.

Custom traits follow the same “rules” for traits in the trait set as determined in the actor settings,
but allow you to create additional traits beyond what are in the preset traits.

Sub-Traits
These can be added or removed from a trait and are intended to be a subset of labels with or
without dice.

Descriptors
These are for label and value pairs particularly useful for things like activations and effects for
Talents or limits for powers or abilities. However, this can be utilized for anything that seems
appropriate.

SFX
These can be added or removed from a trait and each can have a label, description, and
indication of being locked or unlocked.

The unlocked checkbox determines how the bullet point looks, filled circle if unlocked and
outline circle otherwise, and it will fade the text/content of SFX if not unlocked.

Using the Dice Pool

Opening the Dice Pool

There are two ways to open your dice pool:
1. Click the dice icon in the scene toolbar (left-hand vertical toolbar in the main window)
Note: this does require a foundry scene to be active.
2. Click on a trait that has dice from any actor sheet.
Adding Custom Dice
In the top section of the dice pool you can add a custom label and adjust the dice values, meant
for one-time, off-the-cuff traits. The label is not required.

You can reset the label and dice back to a single d8 if you click the reverse icon button. The plus
button will add the custom trait to your pool.

Traits Section
Traits are grouped by the actor sheet they came from, appearing in a light green bar. You may
also clear all trait dice from that source by clicking the clear button to the right of the source
name.

You may add or edit dice of the traits, or remove the traits by clicking the black ‘x’ icon.

Dice Pool Buttons

Clear
The clear button will clear all traits and their dice from your dice pool

Roll (pre v0.0.7)

The roll button will roll all of your dice and display the results in the foundry chat.

Note: There has been an integration with the Dice So Nice! Foundry module so you can still get
your nice 3D dice rolls.

Roll For Total

This will automatically select the best 2 dice for a total and select from any remaining dice the
dir with the highest die rating. If there are two or less dice available it will only select those as
your total and would default you to a d4 effect die.

Roll For Effect

This will automatically select the die with the highest die rating as your effect die with the highest
2 results from remaining dice as your total. If there are two or less dice available it will only
select those as your total and would default you to a d4 effect die.

Roll & Select

This will bring up a box for you to select dice and choose to add them towards your totals or
effect dice.
Undo Button
The undo button under the rolled dice in this box will undo any dice assigned or selected,
essentially starting “fresh”.

Checkmark Buttons
These buttons will preselect your dice for either the best total or best effect die. Keep in mind
that if you have two or less applicable dice these will automatically go to your total when
selecting either of these checkmark buttons.

Plus Buttons
These allow you to add any selected dice to either the total or the effect dice.

Removing dice from effect dice or totals

You can remove dice from either your total or effect dice by clicking on the die icons at the top,
right clicking effect dice in the effect dice area, or selecting the undo button.

Dice Results in Chat

Once rolled, the results will appear in the chat. It will display all of the traits that made up the
pool and their die ratings. These traits are grouped by the actor sheet they came from.

The results are displayed from highest to lowest result values.

Buttons

Re-Roll
The Re-Roll button will reroll all of the dice that made up the current result.

To Pool
The “to pool” button will replace whatever traits you currently have in your dice pool with the
traits that were used in the results pool. Useful if you need to re-roll an older result.
