1. Submit your assignment in MS-Word or PDF form through Canvas.
2. No late assignment is accepted under any circumstances.
Connect to an Access Point of your choice. Use inSSIDer to measure the RSSI of the Access point on
your laptop.
a. what is the measured RSSI in dBm and milliwatts?
b. Find the exact frequency that your device is using to communicate with the access point
(using the channel number you get from inSSIDer – check
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels to find what is the centre frequency
of that particular channel).
c. Assume that the EIRP of your Access Point is 100 milliwatts, the antenna gain and cable
loss on your receiver are negligible. If Free Space Path Loss (FSPL) is the only source of loss
between your receiver and the access point, how much is the FSPL in dB?
d. Based on the FSPL value from (c) and your frequency band from (b), estimate your distance
from the Access Point.
e. Is there a discrepancy between the value you calculated in (c) and your actual distance from
the access server? Did you overestimate the distance or underestimate it? Explain the
possible reasons for the discrepancy.
We want to multiplex the following six sources using synchronous time division multiplexing.
Source 1: 100kbps
Source 2: 90 kbps
Source 3: 50 Kbps
Source 4: 75 Kbps
Source 5: 75 kbps
Source 6: 50 Kbps
a) Design a multi-stage multiplexing that requires the least amount of pulse stuffing and
multiplexers. Show a diagram of your design.
b) Suppose the final output frame is 6-bit long with no sync bit. What is the output frame rate (#
of frames/s)?
c) What is the output data rate and the duration of each output frame in seconds?
The frame duration at each level is 125 microseconds. Considering the data rate of each voice channel
(DS-0) and the number of channels in the multiplexed lines, calculate the following for each of DS-1,
DS-2, DS-3 and DS-4 frames:
a) Frame length (in bits)
b) Number of synchronization/control bits per frame
c) Overhead as percentage of data rate
