The document argues that humans should lead space exploration rather than robots, as human involvement increases the chances of significant discoveries and advancements, particularly through space mining. It highlights the potential for colonizing planets like Mars, which may offer a new home for humanity as Earth's resources dwindle. Despite concerns about costs and risks, the author believes the benefits of human exploration outweigh these challenges, emphasizing the need for continued human presence in space.

Why let little machines explore space when we could experience it ourselves?

Before
you think about this, you must understand what space exploration is. Space
exploration involves scientific ventures into outer space, using humans and robots,
to discover and learn more about the universe. We explore space to find potential
life on planets, such as Mars. This can help us determine if places in space can be
habitable. Using this knowledge, you decide who should go to space – humans or
robots? Because space exploration opens opportunities for humans to experience
endless and allows us to colonize a new planet, I think humans should be the ones
sent to explore space.
Initially, when humans are involved in space exploration, the chances of making
discoveries are increased by space mining. To support my claim, the article “Humans
Need to Explore Outer Space,” paragraph 5 states, “Space mining presents an
important step for finding resources necessary for interstellar travel and
exploration. In addition, icy asteroids may provide a cost-effective solution to
space travel. Space entrepreneurs are looking into using hydrogen and oxygen from
asteroid ice to manufacture rocket fuel. “This proves that involving humans in
space mining improves space missions. The author shows this by using the example of
how mining icy asteroids can help make space travel cheaper. Also, in paragraph 6,
the author claims, “Mining there can also yield rare-earth metals (REMs) that are
used in electronics and in the construction of solar panels. This form of mining,
therefore, would be incredibly beneficial for our survival and advancement. “ This
quote further supports the idea that space mining can be advantageous when
exploring space. The example used to show this is how rare-earth metals are helpful
for humans, as they are used to make electronics and solar panels. Therefore, when
humans space mine for useful materials, space travel is made cheaper and improved,
which boosts the chances of making discoveries for humans to witness.

Another reason humans should explore space is that it contains planets, like Mars,
which could, if necessary, be our home. For example, in “Humans Need to Explore
Space”, it says, in paragraph 8, “These missions showed the possibility of liquid
water below the surface of Mars. With the Curiosity rover, the Mars Exploration
Program is following a next-step strategy known as “Seek Signs of Life.” This piece
of evidence shows how life is possible on Mars by explaining how liquid water was
found on Mars. This can lead to the conclusion that Mars can be suitable for humans
to live on. In addition, in paragraph 11, the author wrote, “On the other hand, the
future of the human race and Earth itself is at stake. We are close to surpassing
our planet’s carrying capacity and exhausting our natural resources.“ Essentially,
this quote backs up the need for a new home by outlining the reasons why both, us
and Earth, are endangered. It illustrates how mankind is becoming too much for
Earth to handle. Overall, these quotes prove that Mars could be a good place for
humans to colonize, as life on Mars is possible and Earth is being put at risk.
Admittedly, there is some truth to the idea that robots are cheaper to send to
space for exploration. People think this because the price of sending humans to
Mars for 25 years could be up to one trillion dollars. This would consume funds
needed for other uses. Though there is some truth to this argument, it only
presents a partial picture. People, who think it’s too expensive, don’t mention how
much money we already spent trying to send humans to space. With major investments
made, why abandon efforts to send humans to space? Now that’s wasting money.
Furthermore, it is often argued that sending humans to space is dangerous. It is
said humans will overdose with radiation and run out of supplies. However, this is
not accurate. Space agencies reduce risks regarding safety issues, making space
travel increasingly safe. Not to mention, astronauts take serious training
preparation before going to space. Success has been recorded in sending humans to
space too. If anything, the reward of making discoveries is worth the risk.
Consequently, despite the risk and cost, it’s clear that sending humans to explore
space is the most reasonable argument.
Ultimately, humans definitely need to be the ones in charge of venturing into space
and exploring it. If humans were held responsible for going to space, technological
advancements and progress for our race would surge. Humans exploring space will
allow us to uncover a new habitable world and potentially provide the ultimate
solution to defend our planet’s future and help the problem of Earth being at
stake. Let’s make sure humans will continue to explore space, not let robots take
over. Our knowledge about the universe will improve with discoveries, and humans
experiencing a new home will be made possible.
