1. Answer all questions (5x1=05)
a. What is the quantitative relation between the acceleration and displacement for the spring-mass system?
b. Write expression for displacement current.
c. Comment on energy conservation when the light intensity redistributes into bright and dark fringes.
d. Does Heisenberg’s Uncertainty principle applies to macroscopic particles.
e. What is basic Principles of Laser Speckle?

Answer the following (5x5=25)
UNIT - I
2. Find the difference between SHM and oscillatory motion with three examples of each motion.

3. What are forced oscillations? Obtain an expression for the amplitude of the forced oscillator and give the
condition for amplitude resonance.
UNIT - II
4. Derive the differential form of Gauss law of electrostatics.
OR
5. The magnetic flux linked with a coil in Weber is given by the equation Φ=8t2+4t+2. Then, what would the
magnitude of induced emf in the coil at t=2 sec be?
UNIT - III
6. Give mathematical derivation for the production of linearly polarized light.

7. Write the grating equation and explain how a plane diffraction grating can be used to measure the wavelength
of light.

8. Obtain time independent Schrodinger's equation from the time dependent Schrodinger's equation.

9. Explain the physical significance of wave function.

10. Explain Metastable state, population inversion and pumping mechanism.

11. Explain the working principle of a ruby laser, including the energy level transitions involved.
