1 What is the weather like now?

M: The weather’s not too bad today, is it Jane? Shall we go for a

walk?
F: OK, Dad. But there are grey clouds in the sky. It might rain.
M: Well, we can take an umbrella. Maybe it’ll be sunny later.
F: I hope so. I like sun more than rain!

2 How much did Robbie pay for his computer game?

F: Hi Robbie. Have you been shopping?

M: Yes. My uncle gave me £30 for my birthday and I’ve just
bought this computer game.
F: Oh, great! I’ve heard it’s really good.
M: Yeah, I know and I got it for only £20 because there was £10
off all the games in the shop!

3 Where's the girl going to put her new desk?

M: Where do you want to put your new desk?

F: I'm not sure, Dad. Is there enough space at the end of my bed?

M: Yes, there is. But maybe under the window's good, so it isn't
too close to the door?

F: You're right, that’ll look nicer, and it’ll also be a better place to
work! Let's do that!

4 What instrument is Matthew learning to play now?

M: Hi Daisy. Where are you going?

F: Oh, hi Matthew. I’ve got my guitar lesson. Do you still play the
guitar?
M: I didn’t like it so my mum gave it to my brother and bought me a
keyboard instead – I love having lessons on it. I’d like some drums
next.
F: Me too!

5 What is the girl drawing?

M: Can I see your drawing, Leanne?

F: Yeah Dad, look. My teacher asked us to draw an animal. I thought
about doing a tiger, but I wanted different colours for that.
M: But you’ve drawn that bear really well with just a pencil!
F: It’s not brilliant – but much better than the elephant I did last week!

You will hear a teacher telling his students about an important visitor to the
school.

M: Good morning. I want to tell you about an important visitor who’s coming to
the school. A famous actor came last year and a well-known
businesswoman’s visiting this week.
Her name’s Mrs Chadwick – I’ll spell that so you can find out more about her
online: it’s C-H-A-D-W-I-C-K.
It’s a busy week, because she’s coming on Thursday, just after sports day on
Wednesday, and of course Friday’s the end of term.
She’ll visit each class in the morning, so we need to prepare something to
show her. I know some of you would like to show her your projects but it’ll take
too long so we’ll make pictures she can look at instead.
She’s giving a talk in the afternoon. After chatting with the teachers at one-
thirty, she’ll speak to the whole school in the hall at quarter past two. Classes
will finish at three-thirty as usual.
Last year’s talk, which had the title ‘Practice’, was great and I hope this year’s,
which is called ‘Success’, is as good.
Any questions?

You will hear a girl and boy talking about different activities they do.

F: Did you have a good weekend?

M: Yes – I went to my new cycling club. We go to great places, and we don’t have
to go fast or anything, except when we’re racing. So we talk to lots of new
people – that’s the best thing.
F: Did you need to buy lots of equipment?
M: Well, I borrowed my brother’s special cycling shoes, and you get a T-shirt
when you join, so just a drinks bottle for my bike.
F: Great. I went to the mountains last weekend. My uncle had a farm there with
lots of cows, but now he’s opened a restaurant by a river. We ate lunch there.
We’ll go swimming in the river when it’s warmer.
M: Nice! What other sports do you like?
F: Well, I do volleyball each week. I played tennis last term, and I was in the
school football team. But there’s not enough time for everything, so I stopped.
M: There are so many things to do around here. We don’t need big parks in town
because the hills and lakes aren’t far – more fun than going to the sports
centre!

16 You will hear a girl talking to a friend. Why did she miss her dance class
yesterday?

M: Louise, you weren't at dance class yesterday!

F: I was at my cousin's – it was her birthday. But after school, I was actually
getting ready for the dance class when Mum phoned me. I’d forgotten she
was waiting outside. Anyway, we all danced a lot at my cousin's - I hurt my
leg! So I can't dance at all now!

17 You will hear a girl telling a friend about someone called Holly. Who is
Holly?

F: Holly’s coming to stay with me on Saturday. I don’t think you’ve met her.
We used to sit next to each other in class – that was when I went to the
village school, near where we lived then. She’s a bit older than me but when
we were growing up, we were never apart. People often thought we were
sisters.

18 You will hear a boy leaving a phone message for a friend, Julie. What
does the boy want Julie to do?

M: Hi Julie. It's going to be great to see you again tomorrow. I get home
from football practice at 11 so come any time after that. Mum's asking what
kind of pizza you prefer. I said cheese, tomato and red pepper - is that OK?
Call me back because she's planning to make some and wants to get the
ingredients today.

19 You will hear a brother and sister getting ready to do an activity. What
are they going to do?

F: Are you ready?

M: Yes - I’ve got a hat for the sun, and some spare balls. There’s a match
later so the court’s only available until 3, so we should get a lift from Dad.
F: It would be nice to ride our bikes if we had time, but it’s good we won’t
have to carry rackets and things.
M: That’s true.

20 You will hear a girl leaving a message for a friend. When can the girl
meet her friend?

F: Hi Hannah. I got your message about Saturday. I understand why you

don’t want to get up early – your cousin’s party on Friday is sure to end late. I
normally have a guitar lesson straight after lunch, but my teacher’s away, so
I’ll see you then. Hopefully we’ll finish the project quickly, as I’m going to the
cinema at six.

You will hear a girl, Maria, telling her friend about a trip to a new shopping
centre. What is Maria’s opinion of each place?

M: Did you visit the new shopping centre with your mum, Maria?

F: Yes. I didn’t like the bookshop, too many children running and shouting!

M: Oh dear! You wanted a football – was there a sports shop?

F: Yes - I got a few things there. It looked small from outside, but actually there
was an upstairs too! Nothing cost much.

M: Right! Did you go to a clothes shop?

F: Yes, but there were only a few clothes that I liked there, and the prices were
too much for me.

M: Oh. And was there a café?

F: Yes – we waited 30 minutes for a table - they were serving so many

customers! We were surprised because it wasn’t the cleanest restaurant ever!

M: Did you go home then?

F: No, we found the shoe shop. But there was nothing I liked. Maybe that’s why
no-one else was there!

M: Probably! Is there a computer games shop?

F: Yes – so many games in such a little place! We didn’t spend much time there
but I got a game called ‘Rock Star’ - I love ones with loud music!

M: Me too!
