DPP Linear Equations

The document contains a series of daily practice problems focused on linear equations in one variable, categorized into sections based on numbers, ages, geometry, and river boat problems. Each section presents multiple problems requiring the application of linear equations to find unknown values. The problems range from simple arithmetic to more complex age and geometry scenarios.

DAILY PRACTICE PROBLEMS (DPP) - LINEAR EQUATIONS IN ONE VARIABL

PROBLEMS BASED ON NUMBERS

1. The sum of four consecutive even numbers is 144. Find the numbers.
2. One-third of a number is 12 more than one-fifth of the number. Find the number.
3. The difference between the digits of a two-digit number is 3. If the digits are reversed, the new
number is 27 more than the original number. Find the number.
4. A two-digit number consists of digits whose sum is 9. If 27 is subtracted from the number, the
digits get reversed. Find the number.
5. Divide 48 into two parts such that (5/9)th of one part is equal to (3/7)th of the other part.
6. Twelve persons are to contribute equally to a fund. If two more persons join, each has to
contribute Rs.5 less. Find the amount of the fund.
7. The numerator of a fraction is 5 less than the denominator. If 2 is added to both, the fraction
becomes 3/4. Find the fraction.
8. The numerator of a rational number is 4 less than its denominator. If the numerator is doubled
and the denominator is increased by 15, the fraction becomes 2/5. Find the original number.
9. A man thinks of a number, adds 7 to it, and multiplies the sum by 5. The result obtained is twice
the number he thought of plus 100. What is the number?
10. The sum of two numbers is 3720. If 7.5% of one number is equal to 9.5% of the other, find the
numbers.

PROBLEMS BASED ON AGES

1. In 10 years, I will be twice as old as I was 5 years ago. Find my present age.
2. My age is thrice the difference of my age five years ago and my age four years from now. How old
am I?
3. Six years ago, a father was eight times as old as his son. After six years, he will be four times as
old as his son. Find their present ages.
4. Three years ago, Rohan was four times as old as his son. Three years hence, his age will be
twice that of his son's age. Find their present ages.
5. The present age of a mother is five times the present age of her daughter. After 6 years, twice the
daughter's age will be equal to the mother's age. Find their present ages.

PROBLEMS ON GEOMETRY

1. The perimeter of a rectangle is 20 cm, and its width is 6 cm. Find its length.
2. Two adjacent angles of a parallelogram are in the ratio 5:3. Find all the angles of the
parallelogram.
3. If one pair of opposite angles of a cyclic quadrilateral are (3x + 10)° and (5x - 20)°, find the value
of x and the angles.
4. The base of an isosceles triangle is 5 cm. If the perimeter of the triangle is 30 cm, find the length
of the equal sides.

RIVER BOAT PROBLEMS

1. A boatman can row 12 km/h in still water. If it takes him twice as long to row upstream as to row
downstream, find the speed of the stream.
2. A steamer goes downstream and covers a distance in 3 hours. The same distance upstream
takes 4 hours. If the speed of the stream is 2 km/h, find the speed of the steamer in still water.
3. A boat goes downstream from one port to another in 8 hours and returns upstream in 12 hours. If
the speed of the stream is 3 km/h, find the speed of the boat in still water and the distance between
the ports.
