STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Kiela Joy Carpentero Silva

I believe that a good teacher can be make learning fun and purposeful, but a great
teacher will also be a motivational tool in student’s success. When I was a kid, I can still
remember that teaching isn’t my first choice of profession but it changed when I experience
an event that changes my perspective about becoming a teacher and ignites the desire to
become one. As far as I remember that event was in the middle of my elementary days and I
promised to myself that I will become a teacher not just only a good teacher but also a teacher
who can inspire, motivate and helpful to the journey in success of my students’. Before I
become a licensed professional teacher I have been through a lot of ups and downs, twist and
turns and hurdled trials and disappointments throughout my journey. Thus, I promise myself
not to settle for less, to never stop learning, to further my experiences, out from my comfort
zone and to broaden my horizon through gaining new knowledges, accepting challenges for
myself and career growth, learning new strategies and sharing my expertise by guiding and
molding the minds of young learners. Those were the reasons that driven me to apply as a
Foreign English Teacher in Taiwan because I believe that the objectives of the program met
the things that I want to accomplish as an educator.
I have the desire to become a teacher in Taiwan because I want to learn more the culture and
traditions of this country and also, I want to contribute to the success of their policy to
become a bilingual English- Mandarin speaking nation by 2030. As a teacher who is eager to
accept new challenges, learn new things, strategies and ideas in teaching, I have been always
interested in teaching especially when it comes to working with a variety of students. All
throughout my teaching experiences I observed and believe that through understanding and
recognizing each students’ individuality and intelligences we can create an interactive and
productive learning environment for all of them.
I graduated at Occidental Mindoro State College with a degree of Bachelor of Technical
Teachers Education major in Food Technology and Service Management in the school year
2016-2017. After the graduation a month later, I applied at San Jose Adventist Academy for a
teaching position which I was accepted right away and served the school for 3 years from
May 2017- March 2020. Since I want to seek and find a much bigger opportunity, I took a
licensure examination for teachers for three consecutive years (2018-2021) and passed it on
September 2021. A year after passing the Licensure Examination I embark in new journey
and continue my teaching career in Thailand. I applied in Banmaiwattana School one of the
private schools in Thailand as a Foreign English Teacher and right away I was accepted. My
service started on June 2022 up to the present. I taught students from kindergarten, primary
and secondary level. On the span of almost 7 years in teaching, I have gained knowledge and
learned different strategies and techniques on how to deal students with diverse personality.
Teaching according to text the does not ensure good teaching or that students will find the
lesson boring and inactive learning. Learning become effective and fulfilling when students’
attention is captured, interact in the lesson, their personality is understood, teaching tactics
are modified and many enjoyable and collaborative activities are used and incorporate in the
teaching process. In this era of rapid changes, I believe it is more important than ever to be
adaptable in order to meet the needs of the modern learners. I am passionate and patient about
helping students learn effectively using technology as an integral part of their learning
process and integrating every lesson with an interactive and fun learning method.
I am a good fit for this position because I experience working with children from different
ages, personality, grade level and nationality. My teaching style is interactive, collaborative
and hands- on, which makes it easier for the students to learn. I am confident that my
experience working as a Foreign English Teacher in other country gives me an advantage to
succeed in this role because I do have understanding on how to manage the classroom and
make the learning process active, fun and enjoyable to aid the better understanding of
learning English. I believe that my skills as a teacher will help you reach your goals as well
as your students’ goals. My experience has taught me to adapt my lessons to a different level
of learners, including those beginners and those who needs extra help in better understanding
of vocabulary or English language. My goal is to ensure that each students have a better
outcome in understanding the lesson and apply what they learned in their daily lives outside
of school. On the other hand, my experience in co- teaching has taught me how to work
efficiently, harmoniously and get along with my colleagues and my co- teachers. It helps me
to make the teaching and learning process more effective, interactive, easy to deliver and
implement.
I am very interested in pursuing a career as a teacher. I have the passion, intelligence and
dedication to succeed and survived in this line of profession. As a person who is interested
and curious about learning, knowing and exploring other cultures. I am willing and excited to
know and learn more about the culture of Taiwan through exploring the tourist spots in the
country, trying out the culinary and delicacies of Taiwan and befriending with the locals for
the better understanding of the culture.
I believe that my experience working with the students and teachers from different nations
give me an advantage in molding me to become effective teacher as well as helps me become
a better version of myself. If this application is granted, I would like to expound my career
growth in taking further my studies, attending relevant workshops and seminars for further
learning. As we all known that teaching is unending learning process, so as a teacher I want
to achieve more so that I can be more beneficial and contributor of something positive
towards society.
As a teacher, I believe that there should be no students’ left behind. I believe that it is my
responsibility as a teacher to create a learning environment we’re the learners can feel they
are safe, nurtured, recognized, valued their individualities and can expresses their talents
freely. We teachers are capable of making it possible for our learners by inspiring,
encouraging, motivating and helping them to achieve their fullest potential and become
successful, happy person.
I strongly believe that learning should be fun, enjoyable, engaging and interactive we’re
students’ can express their thoughts and ideas freely. Learning is not just about memorizing
the facts from the textbooks it is about understanding and applying those facts to the real
world or to the real scenario in daily basis. Learning is about making connection between the
knowledge and what you learned, so that you can see the outcome in another level.
Being a teacher, mentor, facilitator, educator is fulfilling and overwhelming. I love seeing my
students’ being successful in the field of their choice. I love being teacher we’re I can
motivate and inspire the lives of my students towards their future success. As a dedicated and
passionate teacher who loves teaching, I want to share that love and passion with you!
Joining TFETP is not only an opportunity for professional growth but also a chance to give
back by empowering students with possibilities. I am ready to embrace the challenges and
opportunities of teaching in Taiwan and am committed to upholding the values and standards
of the program.
