Permutations- refers to anyone of all possible
arrangements of the elements of a given set.

Rules of permutations
Rule no.1
The number of permutations of n distinct objects
arranged at the same time is given by n!
For instance, we have 5! “Read as five factorials”
and can be solved by n! = n (n-1) (n-2) (n-3)
…...3•2•1.
5! =5x4x3x2x1=120
Rule no. 2
The number of possible objects taken r at a time is
given by

For instance, we have 5 passengers and there are
only 3 vacant seats. In how many ways can we
arrange the 5 passengers?
This means we will take 5 passengers 3 at a time
or 5P3. To solve this, we can use the formula
