MOUSE

A computer mouse is a
handheld hardware input
device that controls the
movement of the cursor.
It is used for pointing,
moving and selecting text,
icons, files, and folders on
your computer.
INVENTION OF MOUSE
The first computer mouse was publicly unveiled in
1968 by its inventor, Douglas C. Engelbart. It was
made of wood.
HOW THE MOUSE COMES ITS
NAME ?

It just looked like a mouse with a tail, and we all called it that.
TYPES OF MOUSE
Parts of a typical mouse

PALM REST
• Left mouse button
➢ It is used to select any
object on the screen
• Right mouse button
➢ It is used to see a list of
commands for a certain
task or program
• Scroll wheel
➢ It is used to move the page
up or down within the
document
• Connecting wire
➢ It connects the mouse to
the system unit
• Palm Rest
➢ This is where you place
your palm while holding
the mouse.
HOLDING THE MOUSE
➢Place your thumb on the desk or
the tabletop on the left side of the
mouse.
➢Your index finger (pointer) should
rest on the left button of the
mouse.
➢Place the middle finger on the right
button of the mouse.
➢ Your ring finger and little
finger (pinkie) should rest on
the right side of the mouse.
➢ Your palm should cup the
end of the mouse gently.
➢ The base of your wrist
should rest on the mouse
pad or the desktop.
MOUSE ACTIONS
• Point – This action means placing
the mouse pointer over an icon.

• Click – Point to an icon on the


screen, then press the left button
once. By clicking the icon, you
select it.
• Drag-and-drop – To drag an icon
means to move it using the mouse.
To do this, point to the icon on the
screen. Press and hold down the
left button. Then move the mouse
while still holding down the left
button. The pointer will bring the
icon to a new place on the screen.
Let go of the button to drop the
icon.
• Double-click – Point to an
icon on the screen then
press the left button
twice in a quick manner.
This will open the
program or document the
icon represents.
• Right-click – Choose an icon
on the screen and point to it
using your mouse then press
the right button once. Doing
this action allows you to see
a list of commands to choose
from based on the icon.
