CIM 360: EDUCATIONAL MEDIA PRACTICALS AND MICRO-TEACHING

Credit Hours 3

Course Purpose
To equip teacher trainees with skills in preparation of teaching and learning aids, lesson and content delivery and
professional document preparation.

Objectives
 Develop in learners various skills for preparing and producing educational media
 Enable students to prepare relevant professional documents for use in planning for instruction, lesson
delivery and evaluation of instruction
 Demonstrate to the teacher trainees various skills in the preparation and presentation of a lesson in a
classroom setting

Expected Learning Outcomes


At the end of this course, the learner should be able to:
 Use the various skills learned in preparing and producing educational media
 Prepare relevant documents for use in planning for instruction, lesson delivery, and evaluation of
instruction
 Use various skills learned in preparation and presentation of a lesson in a classroom setting

Course Content
The course will cover topics in the following two broad areas – educational media practical and micro-teaching, viz.
lettering and chalkboard use; graphics and illustrations; construction of 3 – dimensional teaching aids; preparation
of sound recorded programmes; model of a multi-media centre; operation of media equipment; project writing; skills
for micro-teaching. Preparation of professional records e.g. Schemes of Work, Lesson Plan, Attendance register,
Progress record n Record of work covered.

Teaching and Learning Methods


Lecture, discussion, group work, demonstrations, project, simulation, and question and answer

Instructional Materials / Equipment


Textbooks, whiteboard, LCD, chalkboard, hand outs

Course Assessment
All marks for Micro-teaching will be derived from continuous assessment items and will be distributed as follows:

Micro teaching procedure

1. Student/presenter to prepare the professional records (schemes of work, lesson plan, record of
work covered, progress record & class register) 1 week sample. Use GaU formats ( attached)
2. Teach one of your subject combinations
3. Choose any one of the topics and teach it to your colleagues
4. Prepare the relevant teaching/learning resources e.g chats, maps, real objects etc
5. Every student will have around 8- 10 minutes teaching his/her colleagues as the lecturer observes.
At the end, the lecturer invites the student teachers present to comment about that lesson. The
lecturer then records marks for the presenter.

Note: This practical exam accounts for 100% of this course grade (50% for preparation of
teaching/Learning materials & equipment and 50% for the actual teaching).
