IoT-Based Cart System for Enhanced Retail Experience in Clothing Stores

This research presents the development and implementation of an innovative Internet of Things (IoT)
cart system designed to revolutionize the customer experience in clothing retail environments. The
system addresses key challenges in traditional retail operations by streamlining the checkout process,
reducing staff workload, and creating a more efficient shopping journey for customers. By integrating
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology with dedicated web and mobile applications, the
solution offers comprehensive self-service capabilities while maintaining robust inventory management.

GoCart: An IoT-Based Cart System with Promotional Feature in Mobile Application

Abstract:

This project focuses on the development of an IoT-based cart system to improve the shopping
experience of clothing store customers. It aims to ease the checkout process, minimize store employee
workload, and provide customers with a stress-free and efficient shopping experience. RFID technology
and mobile applications are used in the system to offer self-service checkout, real-time transaction
monitoring, and complete product information for customers. The project comprises three main
components. First, an IoT to scan the RFID tags connected to each item to view product information. The
system also comprises of a web application which covers the transaction handling modules such as
payments, transaction history, and sales overview. A mobile application is also created wherein the
customers can browse and explore the store's items. This helps the store to promote products, create
special and new items arrival announcements which impacts the store's marketing and sales. The
developers have extensively tested and refined the system based on user feedback from respondents
and outcomes from the testing, resulting in significant improvements to the overall functionality. The
enhancements and implementation of this project in a store provides various advantages. The IoT based
cart system's successful development provides customers with a seamless and efficient shopping
experience.

Design and Development of a Raspberry Pi-Based Shopping Cart Following Robot through Computer
Vision and Object Tracking Method

Abstract:

The proliferation of big supermarkets and shopping centers around the world has added to the rapid
development of robot technology. In this study a shopper-follower robot was developed to lessen the
effort of shoppers especially in grocery areas or supermarkets. The Raspberry Pi-Based Shopping Cart
Following Robot uses Raspberry Pi microcomputer which serves as the brain of the system where every
module is connected and Python is the programming language that is used for the system. It has a
barcode scanner that allows the shopper to scan products and provide an initial bill. The ultrasonic
sensor determines the distance between the front side of the shopping cart whether if it is in the waiting
state or follow state; it uses Arduino as a connection from its output to the inputs of the Raspberry Pi 3
B+ to eliminate delays of direct connection to Raspberry Pi microcomputer. Another ultrasonic sensor
can be found on both sides of the shopping cart to determine obstacles that will be avoided by the
shopping cart. The load cell sensor is also used to determine the weight of the products/ items in the
shopping cart; it uses the Arduino IDE to develop algorithms that can be used to calibrate weight
measurements. The buzzer will serve as the alarm if the weight of the shopping cart reaches above the
given maximum weight. The buzzer will also alarm once the shopping cart loses contact with the
shopper; the shopping cart has a maximum allowable distance of one (1) meter to the shopper. Also, the
robot was equipped with webcam so that it can follow a shopper through computer vision-based
algorithm and object tracking. By having several trials, the object tracking method that is used is the
Channel and Spatial Reliability Tracking (CSRT), for it is much capable of determining the shopping cart's
owner throughout the duration time of shopping. As a result, the Raspberry Pi-Based Shopping Cart
Following Robot functions well and had performed its intended operation.

GECS: Grocery Electronic Card System

Abstract:

Purchasing items in supermarkets and shopping malls is time-consuming. When a person purchases
various objects, people put them in a shopping cart. After choosing the items, one approaches the
counter for billing purposes. The cashier prepares the bill using a barcode reader to scan each product.
In this case, customers wait in long queues at the billing counter. This study aims to develop a system
that lessens the time consumed during the payment and speeds up the checking-out process of the
items on the cashier. The system is divided into the cart and central billing units to achieve this. The cart
has a barcode scanner, a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) screen, and a Zigbee module. It also has a graphical
user interface that the user interacts with. The customer must scan the product on the barcode scanner
before putting the item into the cart. The item's information and total cost displayed on the LCD screen
allowed the user to monitor the product list. If the user wishes to remove a product, the user must click
the remove button on the Graphical user interface (GUI) and scan the item. The price automatically
deducted from the total cost, and the item removed from the products list. Once the customer wants to
check out the items, the final products list sent to the central billing unit through the Zigbee module. The
information is then viewed on the counter. The central billing unit has a radio frequency identification
(RFID) scanner for the payment of items. The customer then pays the total cost by using and swiping an
electronic card to the reader. The total cost is deducted from the card balance and is updated
automatically in the system database. The receipt then printed afterward, making the billing process
faster and lessening the time and effort required in shopping.

Project Willy

Project: Willy is a feasibility study of wheelchair attachment and automated wagon. The project was
invented to help and assist wheelchair users to have better mobility in the society. It also changes their
habits that boost morale and self-confidence. The willy is a controllable device that attaches to the
wheelchair it controls via a phone bluetooth controller whose enclosure looks like a basket that holds up
to 50kg weight capacity it can be a carrier basket to them and a pulley. It is important to allow
wheelchair users because they've been degraded because of their disability. The Re: Life wants them to
bring back their confidence and morale to the society where they can work as other individuals.
Therefore, there is a need to advocate and introduce the Magna Carta for disabled people to bring
awareness and consideration to them as normal workers which can lead them to fair job opportunities
and employee empowerment.
